safe to travel

Hi
we are 3 girls heading out to vietnam on sunday but are trying to decide if we should change our flights to next march (very expensive!). Is it ok to travel at the moment? are lots of poeple travelling? we have 14 days to travel north to south. do people know anything about new storms heading there? Any comments about the trains / buses? anywhere to avoid? If we dont change the flights our other option is to stay up in the north for the full time. Has this area been affected badly? Lots of questions!! Thanks

Most of the damage is to central Vietnam - Hue and Hoi An. Stay up north or down south and things will probably be okay.

We'll be there next month and are looking forward to hearing about any updates on the local weather conditions. Just got to know that the central part is back to normal now which is excellent news.

Hi chames,
I think at this point, why not go? Just pay attention to weather forecasts and reports, especially for central Vietnam since it seems it's virtually an annual event that there's some monsoonal storm that hits the center with flooding in October.
You may want to avoid central Vietnam with destinations such as HoiAn, Danang, and Hue for the time being while they're still trying to dry out but if things improve quickly, then it may still be worth a visit to this area.
You could easily eat up 2 weeks in northern Vietnam with Hanoi, Halong Bay and the northwest ethnic areas.
Or fly between Hanoi and Saigon on budget carrier Jet Pacific Airways for a visit also to Saigon or for a flight out.
Anyways, have a safe trip and a wonderful time.
