royal Orchid Sheraton
I just decided last night to go to Bangkok and purchased airline tix at 5 am this morning. Now I have to fill in times between flights. Has anyone stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton? ..or do you think it's worth spluring for Continental?
Any female willing to be a room mate? I'm leaving Feb 26 and will return March 5, 2002.

I stayed at the Royal Orchid the first time I went to Bangkok in 1999 and thought it was very nice. It hasn't been renovated in a while, but the room was very clean and decent-sized, has very good restaurants, staff is very helpful and friendly, and is very conveniently located.

The second time I went to Bangkok I stayed at the Oriental Hotel. The service there was unparalleled to anywhere I have ever stayed at before. You walk into the lobby and the bellboys rush to the elevator to press the button to your floor (which they have memorized). Also, it was my birthday and they sent up a complementary cake, flowers, and a basket of fruit! (They must have known from my passport.) Yet the facilities of the Oriental are about the same as the Royal Orchid and I would argue that the food at the Royal Orchid restaurants was better.

Long message, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Royal Orchid next time I am in Bangkok.

I've stayed at the Royal Orchid a number of times. One of the things I like about it is that every room has a view of the river.

If you want stellar service, stay in the Towers. You get 24 hour butler service, breakfast, and evening drinks and hors d'ouvres. I agree that the restaurants are excellent at the Royal Orchid.
