Rooms at Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok

We are ready to make a reservation at ROS for mid-April. Room discriptions seem confusing. The Executive suite is less expensive than the Tower Executive, yet looks nice and seems larger. Has anyone stayed in the "regular" Executive suite at this hotel? It will be our first visit to BKK and we are chosing the ROS for the location. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Any room with "tower" in the name means that you get Tower privileges which include daily breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapes and cocktails plus some laundry services included in your room price. The towers staff is available to you, and they've always been so helpful and accommodating to us. For instance, I asked them to find a rather obscure place for me that was well off the tourist track, and the staff person called the restaurant, talked with the owner, then wrote down instructions in Thai for me to give to the taxi driver.

The executive suites are two room suites, a living room and a bedroom. Off the bedroom is a large bathroom with separate shower and tub. Off the living room is a half bath.

I always stay in the Towers, as I do use all the extra amenities.

We stayed in 2 rooms at ROS. One had a good view of the river, one did not. It made a difference to us. Any else had that experience?

Jed, I've never stayed in a room that didn't have a good view of the river. Where was the room located? I'm trying to visualize where your view would be obstructed by some part of the building.

I had a standard room at the ROS and I definitely did not have a good view. To my immediate right was a cement wall and then to my left I could peep out the window and see a bit of the river up stream as my one window was facing that direction. Happy Travels!

Ah, I think I am picturing where the room was you stayed in, Guen. So there are a few such rooms, but the vast majority have full river views, some looking upriver, some down. If you get a room you don't like, ask to be moved.

I was only staying one night at the ROS so I just kept that room. I knew that I was transferring back over to my "home" hotel, the Four Seasons, the next day so I just kept the room that I was assigned at the ROS. I went to the ROS to try it out. On that same trip, I had just checked out of the Pen and then checked into the ROS after the Pen. I was trying out some different hotels. Happy Travels!

Kathie-I think I've asked you this before, but I can't find the answer.
How do you book your Towers room? Do you use points? Points plus cash? Upgrades? Do you call or do it online? What is the process to get the specififc room you want?
Last time I tried to do it with points, I was unable to do it over the phone or online. Standard rooms were the only option. This time I'd like to use points plus cash.

Kristina, I get the SPG50 rate - you give them 1000 points per stay and they give you 50% off the rack rate. I book directly with the hotel, as the 800 number is not able to get me the rooms I want. We typically get a Towers executive suite, though have sometimes opted for a Towers junior suite. Frankly, dealing with the 800 number in trying to get the room type I want was such a nightmare in the past, I never call them anymore!

Guenmai - don't you know that when you check out of the Penn you are then heading to the airport!

You may also sometimes get good deals with the points plus cash. The suites in the tower are much nicer than the regular rooms in the tower.
