Rock climbing in Krabi
 

Hi.

We going to Thailand in August (1st time - can't wait!!) and are looking into doing some rock climbing while there. Right now we're looking at Krabi which I've heard is excellent for this. From what I've read Railey Beach is the place to go.

I just wondered if anyone who's been over there think this is a pretty good pick. I'm not an expert climber, but have done some gym rock climbing, and think it would be great to try out the real stuff! Also, since it's more rainy over there then, I wasn't sure how that affected the rock climbing and if we'd be able to do it still.

Any other tips for Krabi, incl. reasonable priced and clean hotels and restaurants or tips on rockclimbing at other places are much welcomed.

Krabi in August? That's the rainy season there. If you are ok with that, fine, but be prepared. It's often too rough in the rainy season to swim, go kayaking, etc.

Oh, I just read on another of your posts that you are going to other beach areas where the weather will be better.

Krabi is generally the best area of rock climbing.

Krabi is certainly one of the best spots for climbing, but as Kathie has said, August could be quite wet. You might find this interactive weather map helpful

Is there anywhere else for rock climbing that not as wet that you would recommend? Or do you think we'd still be ok to go to Krabi/ Railay. Does the rainy season affect the longtail boats from taking people to their hotels???

The weather CAN keep the longtails from running. No way to know until you are there. I wouldn't choose a hotel that required a longtail transfer.
