I ate at Kau Kee several months ago - my time spent inside the restaurant was about 10 mins and the time spent waiting outside the restaurant was at least an hour. Warning - do not go over lunch hour nor in the evening when it is busy, nor should you expect any service. Consider yourself lucky if the owner/waitress does not bark at you as you decide what you should order. (You are expected to know the menu by heart!) The place is so packed that you wont have any elbow space. It sure is an experience but is it worth a second visit? I am not sure. For this type of noodle food, my preference is Tsim Chai Kee (98 Wellington Street) which is also a small eatery, packed but cleaner and the service slightly better. It's not worth an hour wait at Kau Kee. If the line is long, that's why I warn about the long lines during lunch. Come back after the lunch rush hour.
As I described, you basically have two things worth ordering there. Either 1) "larm yee" (brisket with yee mien), or 2) curry tendon "yee". So, in that time one's waiting in line, one should have made up their mind whether he/she wants 1) or 2). Or flip a coin. :) |
