Ritz vs. Regent in KL

Has anyone stayed at either the Ritz or the Regent in KL? We were originally booked at the Ritz which had a great package deal, but when we found out they have no swimming pool we switched to the Regent. Did we make the right move?

Thanks
Mike
Connecticut

Hi Mike

Stayed at the Ritz KL a couple yrs back...they had a small pool, but still quite reasonable...Oh do make use of their health club...
Generally, i find that the service was top notch, rooms were nicely decorated and spacious. Also, this hotel is newer than the Regent. However, i believe the Regent went through renovation a few yrs ago. Both hotels are really close to each other and so location is about the same. We were in KL and looked at the Ritz, Marriot, Shangri-La and Regent because we were unsastisfied with the original hotel. I would definitely book the Ritz instead of Regent.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Q

I go to KL every mth on biz and stay at the Regent, Ritz and Mand Oriental.

The Regent has a nice pool and good frontage but its rooms are old.

The Ritz has nicer, bigger and newer rooms but its backlane frontage is bad if you're concerned with views. It does hv a pool in the spa level but it is not as big as Regent's. Ritz has excellent service and all staff are trained to remember your name.

Just spent a night at the Ritz for New Year's Eve. I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt and point out that it was a busy night, but we found the service awful (and we were on an executive floor with butler). They totally welched on the package we got - New Year's Eve thing with food and drinks in the Executive Lounge. Stopped the food at 6, and the drinks at 10 - both were supposed to be until midnight. Some New Year's!!

Found the rooms and service at the Mandarin Oriental much better (stayed there for Christmas 2001) - if that's an option I'd highly recommend it.
