Ritz Carlton Beijing Chaoyang Dist
 

Just found out The Ritz Carlton Chaoyang District is the hotel for our tour of China. Has anyone stayed there. Is it quite a ways out from the usual tourist places Forbidden City, Tiananmen square, Temple of Heaven, etc. How about public transportation to get to these? We will be on our own for 3 days prior to the start of the tour. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated

(As Google Maps--maps.google.com--will quickly tell you) the Ritz-Carlton is just east of the East Third Ring Road, amidst modern shopping malls just east of the major Jianguo Men/Third Ring Road junction known as Guo Mao (with three further major deluxe hotels). The hotel is a minute's walk from Da Wang Lu metro station, on Line 1, which will take you straight west to Tian'an Men Square and the entrance to the Forbidden City with no changes (Tian'an Men East station). Change at Dong Dan to Line 5 and Tian Tan Dong Men (the east gate of the Temple of Heaven) is just two stops south.

The Ritz-Carlton? Yes, I've stayed there.

It's a very comfortable new hotel that feels more like a classic Ritz-Carlton than the company's other property in the western half of the city. There's a self-consciously classical interior within a modern building, trading on the image of a classic European luxury hotel of the past. It has a small, almost cosy lobby, with the breakfast area Aroma just off it, which is nice and woody with a spotty-tiled floor. In additional to a substantial breakfast buffet there's a large à la carte menu, too. The lobby lounge is chintzy and has a piano.

Overall the building has a solid, welcoming feeling, the rooms are well-appointed in a neo-classical style which is so out of fashion that it is starting to look imaginative again, and service levels are good by Beijing standards.
