Hi -

I can't speak for Bali and Ubud but if it's your honeymoon and you want luxury, you must stay at the Regent in Chiang Mai. It's the best hotel in the area.

Lynn

:-)

Two other 5 star hotels in Chiang Mai are the Westin at around 52us and the Royal Princess at 38us. If you want to stay out of town the Belle Villa is a great 4 star hotel at 43us.

Dan,
The Ritz Carlton is absolutely nowhere near the airport you are the second person that has mentioned this! Bali Ritz is by far the most luxurious resort in Bali and would recommend The Amandari in Ubud.

The Westin is probably your best bet for an in-town hotel in Chiang Mai. It's not quite up to the luxury standard of say, the Oriental in Bangkok, but it is comfortable, the rooms are large and the view from the upper floors is good.

The Regent is a first class property. It is a bit out of town but worth the splurge if you will be in Chiang Mai for more than 2-3 days.

Craig

Ritz is a fabulous-looking hotel but miles away from anywhere... but that might be what you want on your honeymoon! The beach is not great (a shuttle bus and long walk down cliff side stairs) and its about 25 - 30 minutes from the airport and Kuta.

Just got back from Bali, and found the nicest hotel in the world. I took a tip from this bulletin board and they were right. Try the Begawan Giri Estate (www.begawan-giri.com) It is a just a few minutes from Ubud, very small(22 rooms), incredibly romantic, awesome service. It is pricey, but when you leave you feel like you got a bargain. We were scheduled to stay at Amandari, but went and looked at it and cancelled to stay longer at Begawan.

Email me if you have any questions.
