THIS FORMALLY CONCLUDES MY TRIP REPORT.

wkwb42a Dec 4th, 2012 07:34 AM

Hi Karen and Bob!

I have been following your excellent trip report. What a fabulous adventure and a pleasure to read! Thanx so much for your thorough report. My husband and I are going to SE Asia, our first trip to that part of the world, in January. Now after sharing your experiences, we are even more excited about our upcoming trip! Many thanks to you and all the other Fodorites whose expert advice enabled me to plan this trip, over many months this past year. (Initially, I did not think that I'd be able to plan/book the many steps of our journey; but I did it, many thanks to all of you). Upon our return in the end of January, I will post a TR (as I did with our various other trip destinations). For me, writing a TR is an important part of the travel experience.

Again, many thanks for your outstanding and enjoyable report!

Carole

carole---glad you enjoyed it because it was not a "normal" TR full of sightseeing etc.

i warn you that you may never return to other parts of the world, SEA is just that fantastic..

once you get your feet wet, try india..

Bob: Many thanks for your TR and pix, they are totally fabulous written and shot, and I am so impressed by your eye to details and the passion for capturing the moment.

You are planning and making rez for 2013 fall already? Isn't planning 1/2 the fun?

rhkkmk Dec 4th, 2012 07:48 PM

it is, and it consumes tons of my time... i research, make the res and then spend the next 9 months checking and rechecking looking for better prices, etc, and i still make mistakes, but not many

So, you're doing laundry from this trip and ALREADY booking the hotel for the next?! Wow!!!

We are turning more and more of our attn to Thailand,as we depart on 12/21 for 10 days.

Love the stories and the pictures!

rhkkmk Dec 6th, 2012 04:52 AM

12345--- you will have a great time.. your friend will take you to plenty of interesting places..

your hotel is not near public transportation so use taxis, they are very cheap.

rhkkmk Dec 6th, 2012 06:08 AM

This arrived this AM from tong... i hope it can be seen.

Andy loved the "turtle wat" in BKK so it seems only fitting that this buddha should be placed there as a permanent reminder of andy. in the base of the statue, enclosed in a small ceramic pot, are some of andy's ashes.

so andy's remains are now in the cemetery in cambridge, ma; in the chao payra river; on the lawn of the sheraton krabi; in the yard at his cambridge home; and at the ROS.

tong undertook this placement on her own, and at her own expense. the ceremony was very early in the AM and we were unable to attend, so the pictures are very meaningful to us.

Great photos and a lovely gesture on Tong's part. I'm sure Andy would be pleased that he is remembered by so many.

Your photos are just the exclamation point on a very exhaustive trip report, very classy all the way. Many thanks, and Happy Holidays.

5 days, and trying to read everything you write, as you are the BKK expert. :)

rhkkmk Dec 16th, 2012 01:20 PM

Loved reading your report. We r going to Bangkok in February and have tried unsuccessfully to contact Tong. If you have another contact for her it would be appreciated

Also in addition to seeing all the sights I would like a suggestion for a tailor and other places to shop. We will be there from a Friday to Tuesday after 2 weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Any updates for restaurants would also be great.

Thanks

1lady---contact me at [email protected], and i will pass your communication on to tong...

i revisited L'Opera restaurant on soi 39?? sukhumvit on this trip and had a delicious meal..

also did the buffet for lunch at lord jim in the Oriental again after many years of not going---expensive, but excellent.. heavy on fish and sushi..

harmonique and himili cha cha continue to be favorites..

platinum fashion mall is amazing for women..

jim thompason stores and restaurants continue to offer thai excellence..

onetwothreefourfive Dec 19th, 2012 06:13 PM

keeping this for record. printing it for the big trip. Highlighting everything during the flight.

:)

onetwothreefourfive Dec 20th, 2012 07:09 PM

so, I just checked www.weather.com (90 degrees F all week!) Wow. 50% humidity. OMG.

hawaiiantraveler Dec 20th, 2012 08:56 PM

In the tropics the dew point reading is what you worry about. When it gets over 65% dew point you are hot and humid . Typical Bangkok dew point hovers above 70 degrees. But in their winter you may find dew point readings below 65 degrees making life more comfortable.

The higher the humidity percentage only means the more chance of rain.

Aloha!
