Safe travels, B & K! Enjoy your trip on that double-decker beast and arrive in HK safely!

Looking forward to hearing all about it!

Leaving here on Singapore in a week ~~ our Korean Air schedule didn't work out, but they were very prompt with a refund. Look forward to flying with them one of these days ~ if only they would include a flight from IAH. We go straight to BKK for 5 days before taking Emirites to HK for a week +, then to CM for another week and then back to BKK for another 2 weeks. We are staying at the Marriott Sukhumvit Park in BKK and the MarcoPolo in HK.

Look forward to the several mini-GTGs and to meeting many new people from Fodors.

Stay safe, and we will see you in BKK on Oct 30.

>>>Leaving here on Singapore in a week<<<

Warm greetings again Sandra (mcbeanie), and glad you'll be flying SQ61 once again out of Houston, all the way to SE Asia. Should you need any last-hour suggestions re preferred seating/special meals, kindly give notice. Savour your times with some special crews.

Now, warm wishes to you, Bob and Karen, and best wishes for sweet and smooth flights and sights. (I once read that one of your experiences flying economy with Singapore Airlines was a bit underwhelming, so in future, would be honoured to give similar seating/eating suggestions; SQ can have her moments.)

Have fun in Hong Kong. You'll be in good hands, but will still give the shameless promo to my current HK business travel hotel, the Island Shangri-La, and two of her restaurants I had the pleasure of enjoying over the past fortnight for meetings, Summer Palace and Petrus. Great staff and friends at that property.

Noticed some of your Bangkok evenings will be spent at one of my all-time Asia business travel favourites, the St. Regis. (Thanks to even more generous corporate enticements, it's back to the Four Seasons these days for me; as of last Thursday, fine as ever.) I look forward to your impressions of the St. Regis. (And do try to take it easy on the managers and staff; fine people.)

All the best and keep up the fine reportage. (And don't forget to return to our fine home of Singapore -- and you do know the airline.)

askoksana.. does your schedule include Bangkok anytime in October? I'm heading over next Monday and will be in the city until Nov 2. I recall we were supposed to meet up, a couple of years ago, at the Library (?) bar at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, but that had to be cancelled.

You can always go to Singapore and meet up with the elusive Macintosh Carol.

simpsonc510 Oct 18th, 2012 05:23 AM

I guess so, hanuman. SIN is not on the itinerary though.

mcbeanie Oct 18th, 2012 06:21 AM

AskOsena: Thanks for the offer of help in seating selection, etc. We booked early enough to get pref seating, but there is not an empty seat going or coming as of yesterday. Crowded!!!! Looking forward to flying SQ61, however, as the service is always great!

we made it with no problem at all. sitting on the 26th fl of the JW with an anazing view out to the harbour. I think if you are gone from HK for 15 minutes you might need directions when you return as things continue to change so rapidly.

now a jump back to tuesday and long island.

Femi Oct 19th, 2012 12:05 AM

Sounds like a fabulous itinerary!

Hanuman Oct 19th, 2012 12:11 AM

Welcome back to Asia sir Bob! At the basement level of Pacific Place where your hotel is situated there's a lovely dim sum restaurant - "Zen". The hotel lifts will take you almost to the front door of Zen.

Enjoy!

rhkkmk Oct 19th, 2012 12:46 AM

Hanuman Oct 19th, 2012 12:54 AM

rhkkmk Oct 19th, 2012 01:22 AM

we've done the unthinkable for us... we had our dinner in the club. food ranged from good quality cheeses to delicious pork spareribs to smoked salmon to free flowing chanpagne to fruits to good hors to delicious desserts to a way too strong gin and tonic, etc.. again asia knows how a club should run.

some of what i wrote before... we loved korean air even more than the last time. the A380 is a fab plane. more smooth, more leg room, wider seats, high ceilings, huge luggage compartments, quiet. i can't say enough. the staff even helps with luggage.
