Stainless steel guy????????
|
Table ware. all those nice platters, bowls candle sticks, etc you see in hotel dinning rooms made of pounded stainless steel. Lovely gifts, but heavy to get home and expensive to ship.

Finished up our trip today with a stop at the JT main store and then a fabulous luncheon at Lord Jim at the Oriental.
Our flt to Zurich is at 11:15 tonight , followed by a full day in Zurich, arriving home Thursday in the evening.. Great fun, great friends, great hotels, great food and GREAT LIFE. On to England Dec 1. |
England in December- Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Bob, we'll be in either Meiningen Germany or Amsterdam on Dec 1. Not far away!!
Safe travels to you. Did you decide to take the train somewhere else or tour Zurich. |
Me and the cook will be bleary eyed at Schipol Airport on Friday morning.
England in December? We live in Portsmouth, so give us a shout if you need a tour of the home of the Royal Navy. |
Safe travels! Thanks for taking us all along for the ride.
Aloha! |
At the airport... We have been given 4 seats from bkk to zur--- lucked out...
Love England at Xmas time... Looking forward to seeing friends incl muffin and smeagol... |
We'll have our youngest son home for Xmas.
He's been in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), for 15 years. He went with us in 1999 when I got posted there to the British Embassy. A big a different lifestyle, having just has 4 Years in Paris. Me and the cook left at the end of 2003 to go and live in Cyprus, and the lad decided to stay for another year! |
Looking forward to seeing you both Bob. Xx

Sounds like you've had another great trip! I've really enjoyed following along. We are going to London on a mileage run Oct. 31 for the weekend. England at Christmas is so much fun! We'll be a little too early for that, though.
I will send you an email in a few days. Hope your flights home go smoothly! |
Time to do laundry and repack!
When is Vietnam? Sincerely hoping it doesn't interfere with a BOS GTG 2015! Hope your travels home were comgortable and on time! |
next asia trip late oct, 2015
|
so just to tie the loose ends together...
The Lord Jim lunch is just so civilized... I particularily like the sushi, sashimi, seafood salads, roast beef, shrimp, dried meats... I by-pass the fruits, green salads, most hot dishes... but then there is the desserts!!!! 1750++ B/pp. We find this hearty lunch carries us well for the long flts home, plus a supplement or 2. Our table was centered on the window overlooking the terrace and the river---could not have been better. A few drinks in the club at the Renaissance before we left for the airport about 7:30PM. Speaking of this hotel: last year some of you might remember that we spent 9 nights here and were less than pleased. This year we did not experience that displeasure. We had a good stay, a good room and certainly would consider a return stay. The club there is excellent in every way. BTW, I did write a very negative review on TA last year. It was obvious from our greetings during this stay that they were prepared to do their best to impress us. Taxi to the airport less than 200B plus 90 for tolls. He tried to make me pay a flat 500, but I insisted on using the meter. Quite a few taxis this trip tried to get us to pay a flat fee... we had to get out and start over 2-3 times. We used taxis in bkk for all but one trip. Don't think we will use Swiss again... 2 of our 3 flights were cramped, overcrowded and some of the staff were too german-like. The seating is the worst economy seating we have encountered lately. Food was decent, however. On our final flt we had 2 seat problems... the woman in front of K was a whack-O and the woman in back of me was annoying---thought a 7 y.o. was sitting there... oh well, so is the life of flying today. We love our new global entry passes... we sailed through immigration with no wait... Boston has about 8 global entry machines available---self-service. I made no customs declaration.... We were in our kitchen within 1 hour of our flt. landing. Today I will rough out a 2015 asia trip, a least in my mind if not on paper. We hope peter and linda will be able to join us for at least part of it. It will include Bangkok, Vietnam and maybe some chiang mai, plus khao lak I expect. Ok, so I have already thought about it a bit.. THANKS FOR JOINING US ON THIS NON-TOURISTIC TRIP. RHK |
Been following your travels since we had 2 weeks in Thailand 17-30sept.,really enjoyed your report. Here's to the next one. Safe home
|
Bob, I had warned you about the room on Swiss. It's very cramped!! (but the food is do-able) I am not looking forward to ZRH-ORD in early December on Swiss, but it is a daytime flight so I will manage it. Lufthansa owns Swiss, which might account for your "too german" statement.... :) Let's see if you get flack over that one. haha
|
Boston GTG can wait another year ;)
Damn Chiang Mai.....always wanted to go there. Linda will have to retire first...we will see :) |
HT - I think a Boston GTG is necessary next October. We have missed a year. I have been going back and forth with a woman, new to the Africa board that lives in the western suburbs of Boston. Yes, I am biased due to research for a trip to South Africa in February 2016.
Skip CM for now - not a big deal, especially after Bali. Bob - glad the Ren worked out this time. The location is quite good. |
Welcome home, Bob and Karen! I enjoyed your trip.
We are just over two weeks from our trip to Peru. |
| All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:37 PM. |
