Mexican in L.A.: One word -- El Tepeyac.

Please. Trust me on this.

Bob-Oddly enough, I just had dinner at La Serenata (the one in West LA) last night. It was good, but not spectacular. Guacamole was not worth ordering. My Cochinita Pebil was very good, but D's salmon only so-so. If you go, stick with the more traditional Mexican dishes.

There are thousands of great Mexican places in LA. Unfortunately, I don't know any in the area of your hotel I can recommend.

If you are going to walk around downtown on Sunday after Dim Sum, then I highly recommend the tacos at Ana Maria's in the Grand Central Market.

Here's another vote for Frida on Beverly Drive...it's pretty close to you guys and serves a very good dinner.

Conversely, the best Mexican you will find, in my opinion, is Loteria at the Farmers Market (@ the Grove).

UNBELIEVABLY good food--and a great lunch stop when you're there shopping.

They have a full restaurant in Hollywood somewhere, but the food stand at the Farmers Market still packs the most bang for the buck--definitely try it out!

The website for our hotel says they have a heated outdoor pool and a steam bath. These will provide the maximum opportunity to embarrass Bob. I am really excited. Is it appropriate to eat Mexican Food in the steam bath? Has Bob ever been thrown out of a hotel before? We can always stay at Filmwill's new house.

Don't get too excited when you're wearing a Speedo!

Lurker from L.A. here. Believe La Serenata in West L.A. is no longer owned by the orignal owner. Stay away. The one downtown (in Boyle Heights) is the original one, and the best one. Border Grill in Santa Monica (4th street) is pretty good.
Rizzuto, El Tepeyac is two words. But you're right.
And I've heard great things about Loteria, plus the Farmer's Market and the Grove are good for shopping/people watching.

LAleslie-That's interesting about La Serenata. That location is still listed as one of their three on their website. I was there with 10 people for a friend's b-day and it was pretty packed. Most people seemed happy, I just wasn't overwhelmed.

Beth, Bob and Karen leave tomorrow. The Panda is leaving on Thursday. The LA Chamber of Commerce has been alerted and will welcome us accordingly.
