roberto; was not able to access the photo site. is there another address?

laurieco Jul 7th, 2005 04:06 AM

Good morning Bob,
I hope you've had a good night's sleep, judging from your email last night, you needed one! I'll try and post the instructions again for sharing the pics on shutterfly but I'm doing it on the forum this time instead of email so others that use shutterfly can benefit from this.

1. go to the shutterfly site and pick the album you want to share and click on "share"

2. when you get to the space to put in the email address you want to share the album with, put in your own email address

3. when you get the email saying bob (you ;-) ) wants to share his pictures with you, click on the email link that brings you to the shutterfly page with your album

4. now, with the Fodors page also open (with you ready to post a reply), cut and paste the the URL (you know, the address that starts with http://) into the "post a reply" page on Fodors

I hope these instructions are better than the ones I gave you last night. I know this works because I did this for Craig so he could see ny pics of the Villa Santi in LP. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Take out the letters L-A-C-K and replace them with W-I-M-M and you have good answer.

Bob-

Thanks for taking the time to share your pictures. I loved the fact that you took such detailed pictures of the hotel rooms. You and Karen must really have an eye for design.

In LP, the Pansea hotel looked lovely, as did the wats in the town, but I was expecting to see many charming colonial buildings... I gather from your trip report that you were as well.

Again thanks for sharing.

lorna...yes you are right...there are quite a few nice colonial bldgs in LP, but i was expecting a whole town of them....i was mistaken...i will say that LP is one of the nicest small towns i have been in in asia...nothing junky about it at all....i can see why people flock there and also stay or transplant there...it seems a nice way of life...but that is changing too i fear...

one fodorite is trying to get a room at the pansea for january and is told it is sold out already and the same for villa santi resort...unbelievable...

cruisinred Jul 8th, 2005 12:03 PM

Wow, I can't believe hotels in LP are already sold out for Jan. I better get a move on my trip plans for March. I am planning to spend time in BKK & SR, then trying to decide on 3 days in LP or in Burma. How would you rate/compare LP & Burma, as I know you have been to both places?
Thanks

kuranosuke Jul 8th, 2005 03:45 PM

great pics bob.

rhkkmk Jul 8th, 2005 07:06 PM

cruise---LP or burma...i only went to yangon so it is easy for me to compare...yangon is far more interesting and there is more to do and the shopping is better...LP is quieter and there are better restaurants...the hotels might be better in LP by a hair...

depends on what you are looking for...you need to visit both...

we did not go up country in myanmar, which is where some of the great sites are, so maybe it is best kept for a complete trip there of a week or so at another time......LP can easily be done in 3 days for a quick look around...there is not a great deal there to see...imo

laurieco Jul 8th, 2005 07:20 PM

Bob, I love your pictures. I definitely want to go to the Prasart Museum when in BKK next year.

rhkkmk Jul 8th, 2005 08:59 PM

laurie---you need a driver who knows how to get there...get the map from their shop in the peninsula plaza next to the hyatt

laurieco Jul 9th, 2005 04:59 AM

Bob, I will do that. I can't believe I've never gone there in all my trips to BKK (but then again, you were never there either until this trip ;-)

Cruise, I've been to both LP and Burma (Yangon, Bagan and Inle Lake) and if you only have 3 days, go to LP. Both LP and Burma are wonderful but Burma needs more time. LP can be seen in 3 days and it's a beautiful relaxing place where time seems to stand still. The temples are all jewels. It's also easier since you can get a visa on arrival in Laos, I don't believe you can do that for Burma. I had to go to the Burmese Mission here in NYC to get our visas. It's hard to say which is nicer, my husband loved LP, better than Burma (although he loved Burma as well) but as much as I loved LP, to me Burma had the edge. I would save Burma for a time when you can visit several places. If you're going to take the trouble to get the visa, you should spend at least a week there.

Okay Bob, I'm trying something here, I hope you don't mind. I'm putting the links up to your pics so all can enjoy.

laurie...you are perfect...thanks...i am hopeless...

jimdrew Jul 9th, 2005 07:22 AM

hey rhkkmk, when you take pictures of people like in thai stone, do you ask them if it's okay to photograph or do you just snap away? Sometimes I feel a little strange taking pictures of people, like I have to be sneaky, which is probably more strange when I think about it.

laurieco Jul 9th, 2005 07:25 AM

Gee, no one has ever called me perfect before. I'm going to make Eric read this post ;-)

Very lovely pictures..It just makes me want to go to Thailand again..Not to mention your pic's of Luang Prabang. It looks very what I am into.. I am adding it to my list!! After our next trip to India/Maldives and Dubai, I am going to try and fit it in...(along with a million other places)..Years ago we went to Pattaya and it was very interesting looking at your pictures..I might even pull out my photo album and check out my pic's from 1994!!
