Restaurants in Bangkok
 

Does anyone have recommendations for restaurants in Bangkok where I can get my food spicy and my husband can get his non-spicy (he has stomach problems)? I know that we can request non-spicy, but we'd like to make sure that my husband actually gets his Thai food non-spicy.

We've never had trouble getting mild food for our daughter except once when we had Indian food in Chiang Mai and forgot to ask for her dishes mild...they were the spiciest of them all! But, we had no trouble getting alternatives for her.

There is also a great restaurant list posted on here..if you search Bangkok restaurants it should pop right up, since it's just from a few days ago.

The usual tourist haunts are very well-versed in non-spicifying the food for western palates. We've never had a problem. Avoid dishes with chili in the name. Harmonique, Tongue Thai, Gallery Cafe, Cabbages and Condoms, Central Chitlom Food Loft all will do well.

Tell the waitress/waiter "Mai Phet Ka" when ordering food for your husband. This means "not spicy".

This shop doesnt have the greatest outlook to it, but its at the corner of Sukhumvit soi 15 (i dont remember the name, but since there's only one shop at the corner of 15, you'll see it). A thai restaurant that make some excellent thai dishes for affordable prices for anyone. They've been around for the past 30 years and its always hard for me to get a place since they are always full. But if you are around, walk past, if they're empty, do try it out.

Thanks for all your responses. It sounds like we can go to any of the recommended restaurants on this site and request "Mai Phet Ka". Would we be better off asking for "Mai Sai Phreek" - which from what I read means No Chiles?

On menus, chili is usually transliterated as "Prik". Avoiding any dish with "Prik" in its name would be advisable.
