Restaurants and Things to do at night
 

Hi everyone,
Me and wife are about to visit Myanmar soon. Itineraries are already done, arranged together between us and our agent, Exotic Voyages.
The only thing in question for us now is what to do and where to eat at night, when we basically have not had a plan yet. So please anyone advise us. Here's our itinerary:
Night 1: Yangon
Night 2: Sittewe
Night 3 4: Mrauk U
Night 5: Yangon
Night 6 7: Inle Lake
Night 8: Kalaw
Night 9 10: Mandalay
Night 11 12: Bagan
Night 13: Yangon

Most of the places you will be, you won't have much/any choice of restaurants, you will eat at your hotel - likely true in Sittwe, Mrauk U, Inle Lake (unless you are staying in town), Kalaw. There are some options in Bagan and Yangon, but Myanmar is not a place for nightlife nor is it a destination for foodies. Tell us where you are staying in each location and we can be of more assistance.

BTW, if you possibly can, I'd hire a private boat to get to Mrauk U rather than staying a night in SIttwe.

Kathie is right about the limited choices outside the main cities. In Yangon, we wanted to see Shwedagon at night so we ate dinner at Singapore Kitchen (very good) which was close by and then walked over (we didn't take the best route so if you decide to do that, get good directions).

The most often recommended SE Asian restaurant in Yangon, Monsoon, we thought was mediocre, at best.

Here're some of the hotels I'll be staying:
Yangon: Hotel War Dan
Inle Lake: Paramount Inle Resort
Mandalay: Yadanarpon Dynasty Hotel
Bagan: Shwe Yee Pwint
Any recommendations for nice things to do in the evening will be much appreciated. We do not seek for night clubs, just a good dinner and a nice walk somewhere perhaps.
I think we will spend one night eating at Le Planteur, I was told that they have moved to a new and very nice location.

There are a couple of reasonable places to eat opposite The Savoy Hotel in Yangon. Go to The Savoy for their daily Happy Hour, and then cross the road for an al fresco meal...

The Savoy is walkable following a visit to Schwedegon Pagoda, but it's a taxi ride from downtown.

If you are going to Kalaw, then Sam's Restaurant is lovely...

What about outside of Yangon?

What do you want to know about Le Planter? There have been a number of reviews here.

Outside of Yangon, you will have very limited options.

We ate at Star Beam twice while we were in Bagan and enjoyed it.

In Nyaungshwe we ate at a small place called Sin Yaw which was a nice mix of locals and tourists. I
n Sittwe we had lunch at a local place with extraordinary things on the menu, eye of toad type stuff! I don't remember the name it was very basic, we had dinner at River View restaurant. It's nice to sit outside and the place is very busy with locals and what I think were NGO workers. You'll get some decent seafood.There's a place with the same name in Mrauk U which is the most elaborate option there too.

I'm not sure any of the places in Burma were highly memorable or worth going too far out of your way to find.

To be honest the most memorable meals were the cheapest one, the street food, the noodle soups eaten on small plastic stools, the bites of small fried deliciousness! I didn't write about any of the restaurants on my blog but I managed an entire post on the street food!
