restaurant recommendations
I know you lot are quite the gourmands, so I'm sure you can help.
I'd like recommendations for nice restaurants in Bangkok and Ao Nang (or nearby). More specifically, romantic or unique places with wonderful, vegetarian-friendly and omnivore-friendly food. Thanks a million! |
|
that is i have a list...

why not post the list here so all of us can share? Please?

question on Bed Supperclub: when is a good time to make reservations for? I was thinking 8pm but can't tell if this is a restaurant or nightclub and therefore when is the optimal hour. We'll be there on a weds, so probably not as busy...
|
I would recommend making a reservation. When we were in Bangkok we tried to make a reservation for the next day and were told the Bed Supper Club was filled up.
|
We've always gone to Bed Supper Club around 6:30. It's usually quiet at that time, and will start filling up around 7 to 7:30ish. If you are going on a Wednesday, it will not be the "surprise" menu. You should be OK going whenever you feel comfortable. The "entertainment" there is very unique, sometimes interactive, and is not a stage show with applause at the end. You'll see... That's what makes Bed such a unique place, and my fave in BKK.
Do make reservations the day before, just to make sure you can get in. They may advise you on arrival time. Carol |
Read my very recent trip report under the thread of Siam Ocean World. I've listed the restaurant, in Bangkok, that was voted number 1 in 2005 which just happens to be a vegetarian restaurant. The food was incredible. Happy Travels!
|
I'd say make a reservation earlier than a day before -- when I wrote them in December they were already booked up for the first two weekends in January. They have a web site and respond via email -- you can book a month in advance. The surprise menu is now on I think Fri and Sat night.
|
Guenmai, I read the thread and didn't see the mention of the vegetarian restaurant.
All--are Face and Bed veggie-friendly or just really popular? Does anyone have recommendations for Ao Nang area dining? Thanks for all your help! |
Face and Bed are both veggie-friendly. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any restuarant I've visited in Bangkok that wasn't veggie-friendly.
|
Really? My guidebook says that most Thai food is rarely vegetarian due to the wide use of fish sauce and other meat-based sauces/broths. It says to ask for the food "jei"--like "pad thai jei" for vegetarian, but I think this refers to the stricter Buddhist diet of vegetarian plus no onion or garlic and/or possibly vegan. (I'm just vegetarian, but not a huge onion/garlic fan so wouldn't really miss them!)
Any insights on this topic would be very welcome! |
If you go to the top of State Tower, I think that Mezzaluna in The Dome is better than Sirocco. I ate there last night. Its also more private, as you don't have the tourists walking by your table to get to Sky Bar. And the view is actually better.
Another great restaurant that I have not seen mentioned on Fodor's is Mistral in the basement level of Gaysorn Plaza. |
thanks brad.
has anyone been to Le Cafe Siam? |
brad....can you give us a little review of each of the places you have mentioned?? thanks....bob
i like senses in gaysorn for lunch... |
Bob
I'll make sure we get a daily review, once I get to BKK with Brad on the 19th(for those who do not know, I'm MOM). I'll try to do a better job of writing down menu items and prices in my journal this time. Sometimes I forget to write down how much we pay for meals... big mistake!! Carol |
laurie...that is actually an earlier version of my list....others can get the updated one by asking:
