Hi - most people have answered the questions - but here are a few comments.

I know there's a big debate about the tigers being drugged but I don't know.......one of them was pretty frisky once in the canyon and was led away from the tourists! They did appear well cared for and the monks are building an impressive new facility on the site to enable them to reintroduce some of the tigers into the wild.

Regarding the question of using the tigers as a tourist attraction - first, my understanding is that many of them were rescued from poachers and they do hope to reintroduce some of them into the wild. Second - years ago I worked in advertising and one of my accounts was the Toronto Zoo - I spent a lot of time with the head of the zoo and his contention was it's important that we have a chance to see animals in a zoo like environment so we will be moved to protect them. Out of sight, out of mind. For the most part I agree with that.

Gpanda - my other favourite STNG line - "When you're omnipotent it's hard to work in groups" - who said that?

Re Tong's fees - she quoted us 300 baht/hour and we had two long days (13 an 12 hours respectively) so 3900 and 3600 baht.........worth every penny and I like the charge by the hour concept as I think it's fair to everyone. She also charged a reasonable mileage fee for gas. Over and above charges were the entrance to Tiger Temple and Reed's charge of 850 baht per person (which is less is there are more people).

Yep Tong is a very special.. she was so worried about me in the hospital.. a very genuine, enthusiastic, wonderful person.. Now if we could only clone that attitude for guides all over the globe we would all be set!

Beth and I are in the initial stages of planning our next Asia trip. We may go to Vietnam in April 08.

Had dinner with Karen and the Big Kahuna last night at our favorite Thai restaurant. It was fun. Bob admitted he had no idea how to spell your screen name. Reference to the Trilogy was wasted on him. Needham has an ordinance against Hobbits.

Give our best to Muffin.

Did he know what the trilogy was? In fact it is my most favorite book in the world.

Muffin and i are off to Australia and Hong Kong for christmas a whole 3.5 weeks off work. Muffin is already bored of my planning, planning, planning. I never realised it could be so dificult. NYE is proving verrry dificult to get a harbour view room.
Vietnam how cool, it's my next SE Asia place i want to go.

It's hard to tell whether he's feigning ignoArance or not. He's pretty sly.

Is there any chance you and Muffin can make a guest appearance at the likely Boston GTG in October? If so, we can plan around crossing. A disappointed Bob is not a pretty site (purposely misspelled for his benefit).

Keep me posted on the planned dates etc and i will start working on Muffin and check my schedule.
MF and i would love to catch up with you all, failing that any chance of you guys making it to the UK?
