Rental Car Bali

Looking to rent a car in Bali. Any Ideas? Might be to expensive?
I've had a driver the two other times I visited. Just seems like It would be more fun
to explore and get hotels along the way.
Not have to worry about driver.

I wouldn't rent a car in Bali - you've seen how they drive. I'd be worried about hitting someone on a motorbike!

And hiring a driver, you don't need to worry about the driver - they know Bali and have places to stay inexpensively (or free with extended family members).

I did rent a car one time for a drive up to the north.... Wish I had continued to use a driver-- lack of road signs, poor roads, etc.

I would not do it again...

Cost is about equal

zoso, I agree that having your own car would give you more flexibility (and it's not too expensive), but I think the negatives outweigh the positives.

Traffic regulations are loosely interpreted; driving customs incomprehensible; swarms of undisciplined and unpredictable motorcyclists -- both local and foreign -- are everywhere; parking is complicated; and driving after dark is downright dangerous. If you should have an accident, even if it's not your fault, you could be in for a world of hurt under the murky legal system.

Hire a driver. Not expensive, support the locals. Bali traffic is crazy.
