Recs on where to stay in Hua Hin

We will be spending a couple days at Hua Hin at the end of our trip this winter. Any suggestions on where to stay? Is one area better situated than another? Hotel suggestions? We tend to prefer smaller, boutique type hotels. This will be in February 2014. Thanks!

I like you like smaller hotels BUT I really like the regency club @ the Hyatt. It's a very short tuk tuk ride into the main part of HH
Althoug the main hotel itself is large the regency club has a smaller intimate feel. I have a reservation to go back this November.

Any hotel fronting the sea from the Centara Grand South to the Hyatt will have the best beach. Hotels North of there will be in town and the beach is not nice and hotel South of there will have very little or no beach at high tide.

The Hyatt is good as is the Intercontinental. The Hyatt on the weekends will have a very good night market right outside of the drive way call Cecada.

Thanks. Any ideas on what a good rate might be? I ways seem to grab what I think is a good rate and then find lower rstes, so your advice would be appreciated.

Pook, any opinion on the Centara? I favour the Regency Club but D likes the look of the centara!

Nicky,

I've only been to the lobby and restaurant of the Centara. It's a very old hotel, used to belong to the Railways company before it was taken over by the Centara group. Being next to the city does give you some advantage, like walking to town. However, on the beach it will be busy and there will be a lot of people trying to sell you stuff.

I stayed at the Centara years ago when it was managed by Sofitel and loved it. It was like stepping back in time. Great for a few days but that was before Hua Hin had grown so big as it is now.
BTW the Centara was where they shot the locations scenes for the Phnom Penh hotel in The Killing Fields.
