Recommended hotels/activities in Huahin

My folks will be coming over in mid-September and I'll be taking them to Huahin. I've only been there a couple of times but it's what my mom wants to initially visit (right, she did her own research!). Well if I've to choose, I'll be taking them first to the South, though my dad and I won't mind either as we both love the ocean. Anyway, any recommendations on the best resorts/hotel as well as activities (that I can share with them, they're in their 60s) are super appreciated. TIA!

The Hyatt there is lovely. Activities? Why do you need activities? Just enjoy a few days at the beach. If you mother likes spa treatments, the Hyatt has a lovely spa, but a few minutes stroll down the beach will take you to Chiva Som, often called the best destination spa in the world. Call ahead for an appointment.

The Hyatt is nice and the Intercontinental is also nice. These two hotels sit on the best part of the beach and the beach has improved tremendously in the past few months. Another hotel near there that I often walk past and "looks' nice is the V Villas.

No more beach chairs for rent, no more beach bar, kite surfing school tenting up on the beach and now just clear empty beaches - very nice IMO.

Activities include golf, national park nearby (Sam Roi Yod), Thai winery with a nice coffee shop (Hua Hin Hills), a guided tour of the royal palace and many more.

The Centara Grand is a fantastic hotel ( or at least it was when I stayed there many years ago when it was run by Sofitel. Formerly the Railway Hotel it was used in the filming of The Killing Fields. Well worth a look if you want something a little different

As mention above, a trip to Sam Roi Yod would make a great day out.

I have stayed at both Rest Detail Hotel and V Villas in Hua Hin and can recommend both very highly.

At Rest Detail Hotel we stayed in Pool Village, which has 12 individual cottages surrounding a lovely, private, quiet pool. Each cottage has a 'front porch' facing the pool with furniture for sitting outside and also double sun lounges built out over the pool. It was a quick walk to the end of the pool and there was the beach. There are also similar individual cottages in Beach Village, facing onto the beach rather than a pool.

The cottages were spacious, well cared for, with very nice bathrooms. Small trays of treats were left for us each morning and evening and staff was very helpful and well trained. Breakfast was a buffet with many small stations offering food cooked to order. Lunch and dinner were also served, though we ate out most days. A lovely place to stay and I would certainly return, but only for the Pool or Beach Villages, not the rooms with 'garden view' in the main building.

At V Villas we were in a 3-bedroom Villa. There are also 1- and 2-bedroom villas available. Our bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and beautifully-appointed bathroom, surrounded a fully enclosed garden with a private pool, sun loungers and table and chairs. We also had a 'living room' with comfortable sofas, a dining area and a large flat-screen television. And there was a 'pantry' of sorts with 'wine cellar', mini-bar, rudimentary cooking facilities, etc. And I think some sort of butler came with the place, who was frequently dropping by with treats and baskets of goodies.

There was a very large and beautiful infinity-style pool with gazebos facing the sea and beach. Bountiful, beautiful breakfasts were served at the restaurant. You could eat indoors or sit surrounded by the infinity pool at tables in individual cabanas with comfortable banquets built below water level. There were Thai cooking classes at lunchtime. Also a very lovely place to stay and I would jump at the opportunity to return.

Thanks a lot for the replies!

Apparently, my parents moved their flight to November as my mom wanted to spend her Christmas here with me. They're gonna be staying for over a month so that's just amazing. I'm planning to book for the last week of November so I'm hoping that the rates will be a bit low around that time. My top choice is Cape Nidhra. Love its luxurious and exotic appeal but the rates are just too high so I'd go for Hyatt, most definitely.

I'll second the vote for the Centara Grand, I stayed there many years ago when it was run by Sofitel. I remember a gracious property which in itself was a Thai experience. The gardens were spectacular. There was a choice of 5 restaurants, including a coffee shop and easy access to the beach.

If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, Aleenta Hua Hin is another fantastic choice. It's not on one of the typical tourist beaches, but it's quiet and very beautiful, perfect for relaxation. For activities, there's the 300 peaks national park in the area and the resort arranges a whole variety of other activities cooking classes, yoga, vineyard and market trips, elephant riding etc. They even have their own sustainable farm nearby.

We did went for Cape Nidhra then spent a few days in Chiang Mai before heading to Phuket. My folks enjoyed the incredibly cheap Thai massage and the sight-seeing overall. Nothing spectacular with Suan Son but hey, it does have that kind of a tranquil appeal that couldn't be found from the southern beaches.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I know your suggestions absolutely helped others too. Cheers!
