Recommendations needed for hotel in BKK for next week!

Hello all

We are heading back to Bangkok early and will have 6 nights in total. We will stay in the Pen or Oriental for the last 3 nights but want to stay somewhere else for the first 3. We are thinking of staying away from the river - nearer the shopping areas.

Any recommendations for hotels - we don't want to blow the budget so I think Four Seasons is out. Others have recommended to us Majestic Grande Sukhumvit, Pathumwan Princess, Novotel (not sure which one though). Any other suggestions? We are also considering the Shangri La which is an old favourite of John's but think perhaps a change would do us good. If we stay elsewhere, we would like a v short walk to the skytrain stations and to be near some good shopping malls and restaurants.

Thanks!
BB

Of the ones you listed, the Patumwan Princess would be my choice. Great location, very nice pool and fitness center, Skytrain right at your door.

The Novotel would probably be Siam Square, which is nice. The Majestic is quite nice, but I always find that area a bit sleazy.

Someone else mentioned the Holiday Inn, next to the Intercontinental, which is very nice and doesn't look like a Holiday Inn. It's also right at a Skytrain station.

Davis
Metropolitan
Sofitel on Silom
Siam Heritage

Novotel Siam Square is the more convenient Novotel. Been there a couple of times but given it up finally because of the busy crowd.

Stay at the Narai Hotel in Silom. It's only $40/nite through asiatravel.com. The room is big and well maintained, very clean, free breakfast buffet. It's comparable to Hilton by standard but cheaper.

Hello again - through sawadee.com we were not able to get availability at the Pathumwan Princess or at the Marriott Spa but we can get a room at the Shangri La (the angels are with John!).

I have emailed to find out about availability at the holiday inn, novotel and Majestic.

We loved the look of the Metropolitan but think toddler doesn't mix and the location puts us off slightly as we would like the hotel nr Paragon, MBK and for easy access to the British Embassy as we need to register our wedding, also would like to access restaurants in this area and Joe Louis Puppet Theatre, Lumpini park etc.

Any views on the Conrad?

There's Novatel at Siam which is central.Someone suggested the Metropolitan...great hotel. I've stayed there...but it's a bit further to a skytrain station than maybe some of the other suggested ones...but as I said..it was great. It's next door to the Sukothai Hotel. I'd return in a heartbeat. Happy Travels!

Sawadeeka..

I have not stayed at Centre Point wirelss, but does have seen the property and look quite Lovely/livable and is the flagship of the Centre Point/most expensive! I am consdidering it for my next stay to BKK..

I have stayed numerous times at Centre Point Silom/ with a gorgeous River view. And by the way, there two bedrooms at Centre Point are absolutely Huge! i snuck in one when the door was open and could not believe the size!

I actually stayed at the Somerset Suan View for a month in April which is on the parallel street, soi ton son, a good mid range serviced apartment, very quiet, lovely pool and new Spa..And a five minute walk to Chitlom skytrain. Great location!

Another great place is the Ascott, on Sathorn. Very hig end serviced apartment, superb pool and spa too. It is near ChongNonsi sky train. Location is so/so but Beautiful rooms too!

U might also consider Natural ville on Soi Lang Suan, another serviced apartment, with a nice boutique feel, again great pool and Spa! This too wld be near Chitlom skytrain, about 5~10 minutes walk..

In terms of mid range and central hotels, I like sofitel Silom, very much!! this was always my hotel of choice and budget, before i discovered my love for serviced apartments.. A lovely good value property, but unfortuantely very small pool. *That said, it has a nice gym and lovely spa too...This wld be closest to Chong Nonsi sky train, about 10 minute walk..

Another mid range central hotel as some have mention, the Holiday Inn near the Intercontinental and near great shopping and easy sky train acess too...I have not stayed there but have toured the place, looks good and Great location. *Do note, i do not like the Holiday Inn on silom, nor the Narai Hotel on Silom. I had stayed at both over the years and would give it a miss..
happy travels. sawadeeka/Namaste.

I stayed at the Siam Heritage in July and loved it. The hotel is nice. The food is good. It is a centrally located hotel. The rooms were great and relatively inexpensive.

I stayed at Siam Novotel years ago and thought it was crowded and rooms were small. We stayed at the Conrad July 2005 with 2 kids and it was very nice-modern. The pool area was almost as nice as Marriott Spa, although its on the 5th floor I think. I looked at the Intercontinental, but the top floor pool worried me with the kids. The Conrad is a great location for the Embassies and close to Siam Square. The kids also loved the free standing bath tub, rubber elephants, and playing with the electronic curtain on the bathroom's glass wall.
