Ready to book Discovery Pass
 

Does anyone have experience doing this through a travel agent rather than Bangkok Air directly? The logistics of sending money to their office,etc, seems so cumbersome. Any recommendations? Also, I'd like to have hard copy tickets so that I can check my bags all the way through when I leave DC. Is this the way the pass works or are they etickets?

It is no big deal calling Bangkok Air directly. I sent them a money order purchased at the post office for about a dollar and after about a week I received my hard copy tickets.

Sorry I know I'm not answering your question! But can you tell me what the Discovery Pass is?? I'm flying to BKK from London then heading into Laos, Cambodia and then Vietnam and so wonder if buying a pass would be worth doing but have had difficulty finding out exactly what the pass includes.

Also, have you found out that you can be checked all the way through from the airport in DC?

saminoodle - go to the www.bangkokair.com home page and click on "more details" under Discovery Airpass on the left hand side. That will tell you everything you need to know. The savings are considerable and you should be able to take advantage of it with your itinerary.

how can you book your bags directly through...bkk air does not fly from usa...

besides you have to clear customs in bkk...

Bob, it isn't a matter of whether the carrier flies from the US that determines whether baggage can be transferred, but whether the carriers have agreements with each other. From DC may only know whether their baggage can be booked all the way through when they check in for their flight.

An example, Many years ago I flew from Seattle to Guanzhou, China. When I checked in in Seattle I asked whether I could check my baggage though and they were able to do so. This was despite the fact that my tickets were separate (I'd booked SEA - HKG and had to purchase an HKG - CAN tickets on a Chinese airline separately). I've done similar things a number of other times.

Depending on where you live or work (DC?) you might be able to stop by their representative office and give the money order and get the tickets in person. I ordered mine in advance and that is what I ended up doing here in Chicago as their office is about 3 blocks from mine.

kathie---i do understand about checking the baggage under normal circumstances, but bkk air is not normal...to my understanding they do not have any arrangements with other airlines at all....i may be wrong but this is my understanding..

When we flew Thai Air from Osaka to BKK then Bangkok Air to Koh Samui, our bags were checked to Samui from Osaka with no need to pick them up in Bangkok.

On the other hand, I flew Bangkok Airways the month before last on the Discovery Pass. Although I had a direct connection at BKK to Thai International Airways, my luggage could NOT be checked through. Excess baggage charges, Bangkok Air told me.
