Ranthambore - Sherbagh versus Vanyavilas
 

I just found out that we are no longer waitlisted for the Oberoi's Vanyavilas for our 2-night stay at Ranthambore in February. As a precaution, we had reserved at Sherbagh also in case Vanyavilas didn't come through. Personally I think either property would provide for a memorable stay. However, Sherbagh is less than half the price of Vanyavilas, a significant savings. I showed my wife the web sites of both places and she says we should spend the extra for Vanyavilas - it does look a lot nicer than Sherbagh on the web site. However, it seems that Sherbagh might be a bit more "social" and thus more fun. Can anyone share an experience with Sherbagh that would persuade us to reserve there instead of Vanyavilas?

I think I have posted on this topic in the past as well in response to this qn. If u are staying at other Vilas properties in Rajasthan u will have a chance to experience Vilas style pampering. The primary difference is the "luxury" of the experience - Vanya Vilas has a pool, luxurious, well appointed bathrooms with large tubs to soak in, manicured lawns, more choice of Continental food on the menu, a more landscaped feel...Sher Bagh is in closer proximity to the game reserve, is more outdoorsy, tents are more basic (eg comfy bathrooms but no huge bathtubs), guests are encouraged after safaris to mingle over drinks rather than disappear into their own tents, tents are set nearer each other, the feel is very much tents in a jungle setting...I DEFINITELY prefer Sher Bagh for a "safari" experience and would choose that - the same way I feel Raj Vilas in Jaipur is more of a resort experience and the Rambagh or Samode are more "palace", heritage experiences...yet in Agra and Udaipur I feel there is nothing to beat Amar Vilas and Udai Vilas respectively so I am a fan of select Vilas properties. Incidentally Aman Resorts now has a 6 tent property in Ranthambore if you feel like splurging even more!

Thanks, Hobbes for posting again. I dug up your old post and was surprised to note that you answered my question pretty well the first time. We are doing Amarvilas and Rajvilas so we won't miss out on the pampering. I looked at the Aman-i-Khas at Ranthambore but ruled it out because there is a 3-night minimum.
