Ranthambore -- Bundi Day Trip?
We have scheduled two nights at Ranthambore during our trip to Rajasthan in October. We have one extra night to spend before moving on to Jodhpur. Since Bundi is so close to Ranthambore, can we see it as a day trip from Ranthambore? If so, we'd add the extra night to Ranthambore to save the hassle of packing and unpacking for one night in Bundi.

hi tdean,
From Ranthambore to Bundi is not so far, but the Road is not so good. It will take 5 hrs to reach there. In my opinion you can stay one night there. thanks |
I was thinking of catching a train to Kota which I figure is about 1.5 hours plus a 1/2 hour to get to Bundi. I haven't checked the return schedule yet. You're right, if we have to drive, we'll stay over in Bundi.

Even if you have 3 nights at Ranthambore, why use a day or overnight to go somewhere else? With all of that running around you will run yourselves ragged. India needs to be taken at a slower pace than you are probably used to. Plan on 3 game drives (no more) if you are spending 2 nights and 4 or 5 if you are spending 3 nights at Ranthambore. I looked at your itinerary on another post and it is too much in too little time - too many one night stops - you will spend all of your time going place to place and have no time at all to appreciate India.

Craig,
Thanks for your feedback! I've been tweaking the itinerary to something more realistic for the way we like to travel as well as researching and scanning the posts on this board: Delhi (1 night) Bharatpur (2, day trip to Agra) Ranthambhor (2, 3 if we take your advice) Jodhpur (2) Jaisalmer (3) Delhi (3, but it's like 4 since our flight leaves after midnight on the last night.) With so much to see, it's easy to get carried away. I could trim off a day in Delhi to make room for Bundi. What do you think? |
Trim a day off of Delhi if shopping is not a priority. You are rushing Agra, I think. Do you have time to see the Taj a couple of times and at least once at sunrise or sunset. Also in that area are the Agra Fort, Baby Taj and Fatephur Sikri which would be on the way to Ranthambore - not a great road by the way.

I agree with Craig - very few places in India make sense as day trips, journeys are too long. I;d overnight in Agra and if you want to do Bundi (personally I think 2 nights in Ranthambore is enough) do an overnight.
