Railay - Rayavadee Restaurants

Anyone been to either the Krua Phranang & Grotto restaurants at Rayavadee hotel at Railay?

What did you think?

They were excellent, but that was pre-tsunami.We also loved the hotel.

We JUST got back. Stayed at the Rayavadee and ate at the Krua Phranang 3 nights in a row. The food was quite good and the resort is gorgeous.
Be careful about the "View point and lagood" "walk." It's more like a steep climb up rocks and roots. I'm 64 and enjoyed it but many people turn back. We went on the hotel's group daily excursion; we all thought the guide was kidding when he showed us the muddy side of a hill where we would be climbing straight up.

Oops. "lagood" = lagoon

The hotel is stunning but we found the food average... however that was Nov 05 so hopefully things have improved. As the above poster says the resort itself is simply great

we had dinner at Krua Phranang 2 weeks ago and it was very good ambience and sitting at a window seat was fantastic.
our entree was great, but I would not recommend the andaman seafood platter. it was ok, but not amazing.

speaking of the viewpoint & lagoon. We did the viewpoint which was quite challenging, but we baulked at the lagoon. the first part of the descent to the lagoon is ok - about the same difficulty as the first part of the main track. but then it gets to at least 2 sections which are vertical drops about 10m each. There is rope, and plenty of footholds, so it would be a breeze for anyone with any climbing experience and good shoes, however in running shoes my wife and I felt it was a bit unsafe.
