Radisson Narita Hotel
Looking for any comments on this hotel or recommendations for other top quality hotels near Narita Airport. Have previously stayed at the Hilton and did not enjoy our 2 overnight stays, so need some alternatives. Many Thanks. |
The Radisson isn't nearly as nice as the Hilton. The Tokyu might be OK. There really aren't any "top quality" hotels in the airport area. What about the Hilton didn't you like and how long ago was it? They have redone most if not all of their rooms in the last year or so. My daughter and I stayed about a year ago at the Narita Hilton and while it wasn't luxurious, we did enjoy the pool a lot, and got a nice upgrade as a Hilton Honors gold, and the included breakfast was great. I thought it was great value for only 10,000 yen a night.

I know Kim likes this hotel, but we did not have a great experience there in 4/06 either. While the common areas are nice, our room was not so good. I am a Hilton Honors member, but not gold. The TV was about 15", you could barely see it across the room, it got very few channels, the remote didn't work, and no one came when we called about that. The room was spartan with poor lighting and the beds were very soft. It was not a nice room for a last night in Japan for us, not a room I wanted to hang out in. The pool was good, a big lap pool and my daughter was able to swim for an additional fee (about $12) but many Japanese hotel charge extra for pool use. What irritated me is that the attendant would not let me go into the pool area to watch her swim in my street clothes; he insisted that you had to shower to go near the pool deck and I had no bathing suit, was not planning on swimming.
They advertise shuttles to and from the mall in Narita (which seemed to be the only thing to do at night, since we didn't want to stay in the room) but in reality they only run three times a day, and the last bus back in the evening is at 7 pm (although the mall stays open til 10). So we ended up taking a cab to the mall ($16), and when it was time for the last shuttle back to the hotel, there were WAY too many people. Instead of doing two runs to get all the people in, the driver encouraged everyone to cram in, and I mean cram, I have never seen so many people on a bus even in Mexico. There were two people on each step going in and out of the bus, that is how dangerously crowded it was. I really regretted getting on, but since we were stuck in the middle of the bus there was no way to get out at that point. We did get the breakfast the next morning w/our $110 rate, and that was good. But I would have gladly paid more for a better room experience. When I was there in 4/06 they were advertising that they were starting a makeover of the rooms. But I don't know when it was to be finished and if you can specify getting a refurbished room when you reserve. From my notes it looks like I considered the Narita Holiday Inn Tobu and the Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu. Both get good reviews online. Last one I looked at was the ANA, smaller rooms but they look nicer and have flat screen TV, the bells and whistles toilet, and the rooms online looked much nicer than the Hilton one we had. Please post back on where you end up staying, as I'd really like to hear other options as well. |
We stayed at the Raddison our last night this March.
I thought it was very nice. Our room was the biggest we'd had in Japan and the restaurant was very nice. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, but we walked to a 100Yen shop the next day. |
Our experience at the Hilton was a few years ago so if they have refurbished the rooms it might be better however if the setup on the floors is the same, I doubt it.
I had great difficulty with the very smoky smell even in 2 or our non smoking rooms. The first one they gave us was intolerable and the 2nd I just put up with because I didn't think changing again would make any difference. It was ludicrous to me to have non smoking and smoking rooms on the same floor. They should have floors that are completely non smoking because the smell doesn't know to stay on one side of a hotel floor....and it was very strong. Even my spouse who isn't that bothered by cigarette smoke found it very intense. Also was not impressed with the food at all and had one of the worst club sandwiches I've ever been served. Just wanted a lighter meal one night and asked for this off the menu and what was served was woefully lacking. Overall not a very good time during 2 overnight stays. |
One of my employees flys to Malayasia pretty often and always overnights at the Narita Nikko. Says it is a decent hotel, but not lux. Also said the shuttle to the airport takes about 5 minutes. That one and the one into Narita town run frequently.

We stayed at the Radisson last March on our 1st night in Delhi and left the next am for Agra. Our room was very nice, Very clean, newer furnishings, clean carpeting and a great bed. We thought it was fine. We didn't use any of the hotel facilities, other than a decent buffet breakfast and we had a driver so transport wasnt an issue

You stayed in the Raddison in Delhi? DJE is asking about Japan.
