Questions about Indonesia Air Asia, Recommendations for Java and Bali driver

Found a flight on Air Asia from Yogyakarta to Bali. Went to book this flight and found a new time of departure. Started reading about Indonesia Air Asia and I am concerned. Safety record of this airline doesn't seem too great. I would appreciate knowing what Indonesian airlines are the best to fly. Also would like to find car and driver for Yogyakarta and Ubud areas for our May visit.

I think the questionable safety record of Indonesia Air Asia was from years ago. I have flown with them on several occasions and found them fine, just like any other Air Asia flights of which I have taken literally dozens.

That said, if you have time, why not just go overland from Yogyakarta to the southern tip of Java and hop on a ferry to northern Bali? Malang, Mt Bromo, Mt Ijen are on the way and are spectacular sights. A few photos on our blog @ https://accidentalnomads.com/category/indonesia/ . I think there are some details of the driver and guide we used for part of the journey in there but frankly , I wouldn't recommend as they were hopeless! We just contacted a few met up and interviewed them and clearly made the wrong choice!

crellston, Thank you once again for your help. We had planned to take the train from Yogyakarta to Malang and continue to ferry across to Bali. Even checked train schedules from Yogyakarta thru Surabaya and then a train change to head to ferry terminal. No schedule listed to Malang and schedules for Surabaya get in early or very late.

It was 5/6 years ago but from memory we did the journey down from Jakarta to Malang by train. It was a LOT easier organising on the ground buying tickets at stations in person than it was online. We bought our first ticket through an agency but there was no need as it turned out. If you want to see Ijen and Bromo then it is an easy choice , just get a tour and they will drop you off on the ferry terminal.

I am sure you have seen the info on seat61.com - https://www.seat61.com/Indonesia.htm...ggo-Banyuwangi which also covers the ferry. .
