Question RE: Overnight Train Beijing-Xian and...

Has anyone experienced the overnight train from Beijing to Xian, specifically in a private compartment. Going by night train gives us an extra day in Beijing without spending extra time in Xian. We would like to head out to see the Warriors upon arrival in the early morning but wonder if we'll get any sleep on the train.

Also, any reccomendations for a driver? We would want someone to meet us at the station (or airport) and take us to see the Warriors as well as transport to the pottery town of Chen Lu the following day.

Thanks,
Les

Not personally on this train, but in general, the sleeper services (Soft Sleeper and particularly Deluxe Soft Sleeper) in China are very good.

Only the daily "Z" train on this route has the Deluxe, and the "Z" train doesn't stop enroute, so you should get pretty good sleep.

I've taken this train twice, once in hard sleeper and once in soft, but not in a private compartment. I slept both times, although better in soft sleeper - hard was indeed hard!

If you need a guide & vehicle + driver, I have the office & cell #s for our guide in Xi'an. Young & talkative in fast English, she was good - not great. More details on request.

There was a tour 'menu' in our hotel with a lot of touring options but that won't help if you want to drop bags & tour.

email me directly if you want contact info for her
