Question for BillT about FF miles on Eva Air

Bill

When you got your Eva Air tickets, I noticed you said you got miles from Conintental for the entire flight from Houston. is that because you flew continental from Houston to LAX?

When booking through the evaair.com site, they have us flying American from Austin non-stop to LAX, so in order to pick up the miles should I book through American? I did not see anywhere to input FF account numbers on the Eva Air site.

Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to get EVA's own miles or AAdvantage for your AUS-LAX flights?

Yes we flew Continental to LA and EVA air, via Taipei to Bangkok and got Continental miles for the entire trip as EVA Air is a partner. We used a friend of the family who is an Asian specialist travel agent who wroks out of the bay Area in California. Her name is Bunnie and she arranged our air and hotel (Penninsula) for us. The rate when we went in April was $977 for EVA Air Evergreen delux class and $180 per night at the Peninsula. It included airport transfers both ways in a mercedes. If you have not made your air/hotel arrangements why not give her a try. E-mail her and mention my name and give her specifics of your travel; dates. You loose nothing and who knows you might get a better deal.

If you talking about getting AA miles for the entire trip, then yes, you must buy the tickets from AA. AA codeshares with EVA on some flights and in order to collect AA miles the ticket has to have AA flight number, NOT Eva Air flight number. The one flight from LAX to TPE is flight # AA 7959. You will get 100% miles plus any status bonuses.
If you are just talking about getting the AUS-LAX miles then you have to make sure you are not flying under Eva Air flight number because you will not get AA miles. If it's an AA flight number then just give your AAdvantage number at the airport during check-in.

Allow me to clarify one point. You do not have to purchase the ticket from AA directly. You could purchase it from Expedia.com or Orbitz.com or your local travel agent, but once again, the ticket has to have AA flight numbers on the ticket in order to collect AA miles.

I am trying to just end up with some miles I can use later. American miles would be great---Thanks to all for the info. I will try both through AA and through the travel agent and see how it shakes out.

Bob--my email address is [email protected] Would LOVE to see your pictures.

I will get in touch with Bunnie. On Orbitz, there is only the option of flying ALL business class or all economy. I want to fly Evergreen Deluxe on Eva and economy on AA and it won't let me select it that way.

Thanks for the referral

You can also earn CO's Onepass miles on ALL EVA flights, with MOST fare classes, and not just CO codeshares. However, I'm not sure what fare class Evergreen Deluxe is, so you will need to ask about that, and confirm with CO if they'll give you Onepass miles, and how many.

Forgot to add one thing about EVA and CO's Onepass. You can only earn CO's Elite Qualifying Miles on CO codeshares. Base miles will still be earned on all eligible fares on EVA, just not EQM.

I definately learned my lesson when it comes to miles with my trip and using an agent. Booking through an agent at Sheratons we are getting bulk rates and can't get Starwood Miles but probably will when we present our card there.
As for EVA I wish I knew about AA. I will try the Continental route. I sgned up for EVA program but don't know know when we will get back.

AA would not give me FF miles for the flight. Am still waiting to hear from BillT's travel agent. Failing that, I will just book it through the Eva site and forget about the miles, though it pains me.

Maybe I would evetually use the eva miles....

I believe the problem is that while AA codeshares on EVA flights, they don't offer Evergreen Deluxe class on AA tickets. It's same thing with CO on Virgin Atlantic.

Since you can only get AA miles if you get your tickets on AA's codeshare flight number, your only choices are getting EVA's own miles or CO's Onepass. Even though you earn fewer CO miles, you may be able to use them more easily if you live in the U.S.

Offwego- e-mail Bunnie again- sometimes she takes a few days to get back to you- don't give up on her so soon - she got us a great deal. I will try to find her phone number and post it. Really- you want those FFmiles- its almost 20,000 so you don't want to loose them. Also go on the EVA Air web site and look at the seating plan and tell Bunnie what seats you prefer- she got us what we wanted!

I admire your persistence. Bunnie did get in touch with me yesterday. I am working with her to see what she can arrange.

According to American, Bob may be right---EVA is no longer codesharing with AA-it's Japan Air now. Even when she specifically plugged in Taipei as the layover, EVA only came up as codeshare for the trip over but not the return (makes no sense?).

In the past, I have gotten different responses from different agents so I've called again and so far gotten the same story.

I will keep trying.

I'm really determined to get another couple of inches of footroom in Evergreen and not lose all those miles in the process.

Maybe will call Continental tonite--We're not going until January. I've got time. I'll keep trying.

Persistence pays, huh BillT?

Offwego- Bunnie is an asian travel specialist so hopefully she can get you the best deal- but do shop around since you have plenty of time.
Sometimes she takes a while to get back to you- but be patient she will. As she is a close family friend do mention my name- it might help as well.

I don't know where or who you get your info from, but if you just go to www.aa.com and plug in AUS as a departure and TPE as a destination and then your dates, guess what comes back?
AUS to LAX AA flight number blah, blah
LAX to TPE AA flight number blah, blah operated by EVA Air
Same on the return.
I checked in September and the total price was $891.

Maybe you should get a diffeent agent?

BTW, same thing happens on Expedia and Orbitz.
