layover in Seoul, Korea

I have a layover in Seoul Korea on December 12th from 7:30am until 4:30pm in route to Bangkok. Is there anything that I can see or do in that time frame?

Thanks. Colleen

There are a couple pretty decent half-day tours (approx. 4 hours) available...I was in Seoul for a couple days a few weeks ago, signed up for a group tour, but it was only me. So I had a private tour which gave me a great opportunity to talk with the guide about current events. He had great English, as I have NO Korean. I've looked through all my papers from the trip to find the name of the tour company and I can't say for sure but it may have been the Seoul City Tour Bus (www.seoulcitytourbus.com). Again, it was a decent experience and for me it was worth it because I had so little time.
If you just want to shop, there are plenty of markets. I went to Namdaemun (also known as the south market) and got completely overwhelmed in the building that had an entire floor of rhinestone jewelry and accesories. Not for the faint of heart!

Fair winds and following seas.

I think we may also have an 11 hr layover in Seoul (we haven't booked air yet).

It seems I read somewhere recently that their is a train system that whisks you right into downtown. If this is the case it seems like a nice oportunity to spend a few hours in the city.

Any knowledge about a quick way to get into town?

We may just get the room at the airport hotel.

Thanks!

euro, a friend of mine recently went to Seoul and the taxi ride into town costs about US$70. There was no train. There are buses that are less expensive, however. It's a good hour into town.
