Question about Thai Airway flights
 

We will be flying from the West Coast to Bangkok. We are hoping to fly on Thai Airways nonstop from LAX to BKK. Does anyone know if all the planes that do this route have the individual screens?

Also, if I am looking for flights between Chang Rai/Bangkok/Siem Reap what is the best way to get those? I have seen people on this site mention the Thai Airways Pass but from their website, it doesn't appear they fly to Siem Reap.

Yes, all seats on Thai's 340-500 have personal video screen with AVOD (A/V on Demand).

There has been lots of rumors about this non-stop being dropped, and Thai selling those flights. But all just rumors for now.

For the second part of your question, have you checked Bangkok Air?

Bangkok to Siem Reap is served by only Bangkok Air. They do a Discovery Airpass for 3 - 6 legs. Information on their website www.bangkokair.com. They do not fly to Chiang Rai.

Between Bangkok and Chiang Rai, you have Thai Air, 12 Go www.fly12go.com and Air Asia www.airasia.com. Thai Air has a Discover Thailand Pass for 3 - 5 or 6 flights. Information also on their website www.thaiair.com. They do not fly to Siem Reap.

I read somewhere Thai Airlines was going to increase the non stop flights from LAX to BKK in May

No, Thai is decreasing direct flights to LAX and adding flights via Japan to make up the difference. Note that the 747's used for the 1-stop flights DO NOT have individual screens in coach, or even biz class, the last time I did it.

Thai updates their schedule every April/May. There was a lot of speculation about them stopping the non-stops due to losses (even though they typically fly full) but in the end they added some 1-stop flights via Tokyo.

They may still halt the non-stops if they can find a use or a buyer for the gas-guzzling 340-500s they use for the non-stop route.

jgg- I think Thai Air has a see thailand pass for 169 US per person. You can do 3 legs within thailand. Check their website for expiration.

Thanks laartista. At this point we are just thinking of doing BKK, Chang Rai and Siem Reap, which would only be two legs in Thailand. I was hoping to find an airline that flew to both Chang Rai and Siem Reap, so even with a stop in BKK I could remain on the same airline, but that doesn't appear possible.

Thanks for the link J. No fim itinerary yet. I do know we are flying Ny to Tokyo direct on Buddy passes, biz class. From Tokyo Japan air rt to bkk. I think a day on each end in Tokyo. As far as Thailand, so far 4 days bkk, 3 days Chaing Mai. No time for the beach. Robin only has 10-11 days intotal. Her brother is also going and I think 2 work friends of hers maybe. I might add a few days and head to Siem Reap solo, I'd hate to miss Ankor Wat. We'll see, I usually don't firm up final plans until about 4-6 weeks prior. LOL. Anyhoo- really psyched, the mosaics in Thai look fantastic! .

Yes, those flights have individual movie screens. I take the LA-Bangkok flight regularly. Happy Travels!

Any update as to whether or not Thai Airways is going to put an end to the LAX to BKK non-stop flight?

Latest position is that they will not cancel the non-stops, but will make both BKK and JFK dailies.

This is what Thai says in their latest newsletter.

"Non-stop flights between Bangkok and New York or Los Angeles are now DAILY onboard A340-500 aircraft with a choice of three classes of service; Royal Silk Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class".
