Question about Silk Air

Hi all,

We have planned our Singapore/Java itinerary around the Silk Air non-stop flight from Singapore to Solo. Our trip is not until next July but in researching the flights on the Silk Air website, we are finding that they are priced at about $1000 SD each ($600 USD).

Does anyone have any experience with this airline's prices? I know they are affiliated with Singapore Air which means they might be a bit more expensive. We are trying to determine whether we should just bite the bullet and buy them now or wait a bit longer for better pricing. July is a long ways off, but we don't want to risk losing this perfect flight, either.

i would wait if it were me....unless they offer an option for price adjustments later on

Hi Ericka,
I have also been looking into this flight for a possible Indonesia trip, concluding at Amanjiwo then connecting to Singapore.

If I recall, you can play with the dates a bit on the SilkAir website and it does appear that the rates are quite high over 6 months away. Try putting in a closer date.

2 other options: I saved this link for a Singapore travel agent that JamesA suggested a while back. They have deals on SilkAir, so try sending them an email: http://www.airfares.com.sg/airfares/..._indonesia.htm

Also, as a backup, Garuda does fly direct from Jogja to Sing a few times per week.

I look forward to your trip report on Amanjiwo.

Silk Air flights are expensive. I've never found the prices to go down closer to the date, but I haven't seen them go up, either. I tried to have a local agent in Singapore check for me, but he couldn't get better prices either (and I used the one James recommends), although the website made it look like there were special prices available.

The Silk Air Pass - Orgy 7, you're amazing! That's half the price of what they are selling on the website right now.

We'll check into it!

Very good deal. I wasn't able to find the minimum number of legs you must fly. Does anyone know?

Ericka Oct 25th, 2005 01:00 PM

Good point, Kathie. That might be a restriction. We'll be looking into it further and will let you all know.

Hey everybody!

We just booked the Silk Air Pass through Singapore Airlines. There were no minimum number of legs required. The whole thing worked out perfectly - they were able to tie the reservation in to our Singapore Airline award tickets from JFK to Singapore.

Great news! I wonder if you could get the special price because you were flying into Asia on Singapore Air...

rhkkmk Oct 26th, 2005 07:53 PM

kathie...i know that is the way malay air does it...

orgy7 Oct 26th, 2005 08:03 PM

on the site it dosn't say that.

many pases like the hip hop asia pass and member planes malay, thai air. do require ya to fly in.

-------------
just to reminde people thai air and almot every major carior offers a pass.

if it's not offered directly with one airline then you can obtain passes from airline aliences like, ONEWORLD pass.

Hi all,

There was no requirement to fly in via Singapore Airlines. The only real requirement I recall is being a US citizen.

Kathie Oct 27th, 2005 10:49 AM

Thanks for all the info. I recently checked on a Malaysian Air pass, but as orgy says, they require you to fly from the US on Malaysian Air in order to get it.
