Question about shopping in Bangkok (souvenier etc)

I have found lots of references to shopping on this forum and have my shopping mall list make out but I have one more question. Where is the best place to shop for what I call small trinkets/souveniers, tourist type tee shirts, (typical junk), etc?

My daughter always bring back this kind of stuff for all her friends at school and church and for a bunch of cousins. Obviously I am talking about the bargain price stuff. A market or bazaar type place, somewhere like the Cairo Bazaar is what comes to mind.

As always, Thanks for all your help!,

MBK is perfect for this sort of thing, as would be any of the street markets (which are everywhre you walk). MBK would be my first choice for souvenir shopping for very inexpensive things.

in addition to mbk also look at the nite market-- suan lum...

watch out for street vendor stuff however....quality varries...

basement of narand prand is also a good place....

the more you buy from one vendor the better the price...if you are buying lots, drop the price way down to like 25% of asking price and settle for 40%...

Bob-- I thought the night market was closing in early Feb.

Night market will be open for a while. There are vendors with leases that will not be up until near the end of the year.

In addition to the other suggestions, Chatuchak weekend market has everything you are after, plus more. (it it supposed to have over 7000 stalls). Take the BTS (Skytrain) to Mo Chit station. The market is visible from the station and just a few minutes walk. It is outdoor though, so recommended to get there early in the day.

I like Nari Phand (SP?). They have lots of little stuff that is very cheap, as well as nicer handicrafts.

NaRaYa is a great souvenir place that I would highly recommend. Several locations, including the World Trade Center on the ground floor. Across the street below Gaysorn Plaza is the very large souvenir and crafts store.

The night market is decent.

I am not a big fan of Chatuchak. Too hot. Too far to get to.

If the night market is still open then it definitely is a good and fun spot for souvenirs. And you can do it after dinner so it won't cut into sightseeing.
