Purchasing Cambodian visa online -- safe?

Has anyone ever purchased their visa into Cambodia online?

I found this on the US govt's travel site, so I believe it's reputable, but wasn't sure whether or not it was safe submitting payment online through a Cambodian site (it doesn't seem to have an SSL certificate):

Does anyone have experience with this, or think it's safe?

Are you flying to Cambodia? If so, you can get your visa when you arrive at the airport. No need to get it in advance. Just bring 2 passport-sized photos and, as I recall, $25. Very quick on-site processing (faster than Vietnam).

Online services always more costly many scammers Vietnam the worst.Just bought mine cheaply at the airport check travel.state.gov for details.

you can use it safely. many people do. Just as quick to get it at the airport though.

Yup, the time you spend getting the visa almost exactly approximates the time it takes for your luggage to arrive. A pre-arranged visa simply means you'll wait at the luggage carousel instead of in the visa line. Net time gain - absolutely zero.

So just get a seat near the exit on the plane and be first off.

We and most of the people we traveled with purchased it online directly from the Cambodian government at the link below.

Get it at the airport. Its quick and simple and, if you've got checkin luggage, you'll still have it by the time it arrives. Its a different matter if you are arriving overland.

Agree with silverwool - it's a breeze at the airport. And they take USD. And if you don't have USD, there's an ATM in the airport (at least there is one at Siem Reap) so you can get the $20USD you need for the Visa.

ok thanks guys! i think i may just have some money set aside to get it at the airport upon arrival.

@ Silverwool--if i'm not flying into cambodia, but say, going directly from Laos/Vietnam to Cambodia via a train/bus, is that going to be more complicated?

If you go to the website of cambodia they will state which road entrances do have visa on arrival. it is NOT all of them so plan accordingly. As I understand it there is a lot of scamming at the borders with visas.. tuk tuks.. etc. Sounded like an adventure in itself!

There are reports of scams at the various overland borders. Do a google search. (Not sure is there are any trains!)

Ellstah if you are going overland then best to get online visa, it saves some of the problems at border. You still need to fill out entry cards etc when you arrive but it does tend to stop officials asking for "extra fees".

If you are going by air then just get one on arrival as posted above.
