PuraLuhurUluwatu Temple
On the southernmost point of Bali, the Temple of PuraLuuhurUluwatou is located. There are some things that need to be mentioned about the architecture of the Bali Temples in general. Every temple in Bali is essentially an open enclosure that is surrounded by buildings without walls, with columns and a roof. Each building is oriented on the mountain-sea axis. The closer the mountain is to the building, the more sacred it is, the closer and therefore sacred the altar Pantmasana. On the top of it there is an empty throne symbolizing the Supreme God. However, the most impressive is the Dedicated Portal (KantiBentar), the gate from where you enter the main courtyard. It looks like an isosceles triangle that has split it vertically into two smaller rectangles and removed the pieces. It is not just a wonderful architectural form of building, but it symbolizes the division of the world into positive and negative forces of the universe. One more fascinating thing in the temples is the "altar". It looks like a pagoda with many levels. These are specifically separated in numbers : 3,5,7,9 or 11 depending on the importance of the divinity that is dedicated. In Bali everything has to do with the Goddess Nature. In order to enter any temple, men and women, have to wear the traditional sarong and the sacred belt. Sarong is a large piece of cloth that you put in the middle and add a cloth belt on top. If you do not have your own, there are at the entrance of each temple. Most of the temples have an entrance of 1-2 euros, while some others are free.
PuraLuuhurUluwatu is a temple which is literally hung on the cliff. Built in the 11th century, it is considered one of the most sacred places of Bali's worship. Until the early 20th century only the princes of Denpasar could pray here. A path with stairs to the rock leads to the temple 200 meters above the sea. The spectacular view fromdifferent angles at the top, lead into the Indian Ocean and everyone can gaze at the wild waves whichcrack at the rocks. The forest surrounding ,is full of moles. A theater was created up there, where the visitor has the chance to watch a performance of the Ketchak holy dance. The show begins with a fireplace on the scene with five flashing torches. As soon as the time passes, many men, in traditional costumes naked from the waist and above, with a red hibiscus on their right ear, circled the torches, squatted, and start an endless long-haired ritual whistle. They do not stop at all during the show, which is more than an hour. It seem that they are in a pretty ecstatic mood. Back in the depths of the horizon, the sun is falling in its own ecstasy. Diving slowly at the bottom of the ocean, laying its gold braids on the water in a desperate attempt to be on the top. The temple is considered to have one of the most beautiful locations on the island to admire the sunset. It is actually a tricky place for the romantic ones.. Kecak is a ritual dance and consists of male dancers that fall into ecstasy and the actors who represent an part from Ramayanapoem . They tell the story of Prince Rama, who, with the help of Mistress, defeats the evil King Ravana and saves Princess Sita. The whole ritual is based on the belief that the spiritual entities will enter the bodies of the dancers. It is a mystical and unique show. If anyone is next to this area, should visit it. Besides that the area is an appropriate place for bali wedding venues ( https://www.ayana.com/bali/ayana-res...eddings/venues ) because of the marvelous and extraordinary view of the sun and the sea. |
