private tours in Vietnam
I am planning a 2 week private tour in Sept. 2003 that includes hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Saigon. Does anyone have experience with Ann Tours or Intrepid Adventure Tours? I'm also looking at Griswalds Vacations. We want to see the whole country with just 2 people and a guide. We don't need first clas, just clean, comfortable, and AC rooms. Any advice will be apreciated.

After traveling Vietnam for 2 years and going back for the 3rd year in January this is the couple I have used to plan my trips.
Their website is www.indochinatours.com
personal email address is
[email protected]
Telephone No. 360-570-2096
They will plan exactly the places you want to go or make suggestions if you need help. The accomodations are also your choice. It is an individualized tour just for you.
Their guides and drivers are the best which is very important in Vietnam.
I have traveled from north to south and also gone some places the average tourist would not go.
Please email me if you have further questions.

For a visit to Vietnam, you can't beat Vietnamtourism HCMC. They have an American rep, Doug Reese, in Falls Church, VA. Doug set up my trip to Vietnam last May/June and is doing my trip to Vietnam next month. Doug can be reached at [email protected]. We thought it was very low cost and the guides and drivers were terrific.We went all the places you mentioned plus Sapa, Dien Bien Phu, Danang, Son La and more.

Just returned today from 3 weeks in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. We used Ann Tours in Saigon. They met us at the airport in Saigon, then our guide then took us on a day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The next day we did a day trip to the Mekong Delta. We were very happy with Ann Tours. Our guide was very pleasant. We used Buffalo Tours in Hanoi, they were also excellent. We did an overnight in a Thai stilt house near Mai Chau. We arranged both of the tours in Vietnam, I wouldn't hesitate to use either one of them again.

My husband and I spent 16 days in Vietnam in 1997 using Vidotours. I just checked and they have a website -www.vidotourtravel.com - which has the home page up with contact info but they're still working on the rest of the site. They arranged the hotels, which were tourist class but perfectly acceptable, and furnished an ac car, driver and English-speaking guide throughout our stay. We had 3 sets of drivers/guides - for Hanoi and Halong Bay; for Hue, Danang, and Hoi An; and for Nha Trang, Dalat, and Saigon.
We were very pleased with the quality of the guides, the quality of the hotels, and the fun of being able to direct our own visit, stopping where and when we wanted, for little more than would have been the cost of touring with a busload of other tourists.
We used http://www.exotissimo.com, a French owned operator with a lot of experience. They were extremely good and reliable. We used them to book all hotels, internal air, and have car/driver/guide in every city (Ho Chi Mihn, Danang with day trip to Hoi An, and Hanoi). Their web site is usefull, too. Stay at the Furama in Danang! Oooooh, we loved the beach.

we have just come back from travelling around Vietnam - just fascinating.
We paid for a independent guide in the North and I think that improved the visit as we learn a lot more and got a feel for just how amazing this country must have been. His name's Kao ([email protected]), specially recommended.
