private guide in bangkok

I have posted a request for info on a private guide for Bangkok and day-trip out of the city. No responses. I'll try again. Thanks.

See the thread about a Bangkok guide mentioned often at Fodor's: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=27

some people like "rat" who has been mentioned here several times...put her name into the info finder on this site and you can read about her...

Rat is more a driver than a guide. She can get you anywhere in and around the city you want to go and can tell you a bit about most of the major attractions. she does a great job on the Floating Market trip.

But if you want an expert in the art/history/culture of Bangkok, she is probably not the right person for you.

My wife and I were pleased with a guide and driver arranged through EastWestSiam.com. This was done through a travel agent in the states, but I suspect you could do it online without help.

Lindsey,
Yes, we're looking for a guide, not a driver (we can get around Bangkok ourselves.) In fact, this is our second time there, and we used guides at the sites, rather than having one we knew about...a mistake. Do you have the names of guides who have a good sense of the history/culture. Believe it or not, we were thinking of hiring someone to take us through the museum. We used a guide in mainland China for the museum in Xian---it was amazing how much more we appreciated what we were looking at with the details provided by the guide. Any ideas for Bangkok?

The National Museum has a National Museum Volunteers group, mostly expats so great English which conduct guided tours every week. Forget exact dates and times but you can e-mail nmv@loxinfo or I think call 662 261 4604. Also contact the Siam Society - have an amazing range of members. Someone might be willing to undertake private guide work for you even if their general scheudle does not match what you want. [email protected].

According to the information I've gathered, the English-speaking guided tours of the National Museum take place on Wednesday and Thursday, beginning at 9:30am and lasting about two hours.
