Prescription drugs in BKK
Anyone returned home with prescription drugs they purchased in BKK?
|
I returned with prescriptions. What is the question?
|
If you buy something in a proper chemist/drugstore in Bangkok then it should be 100% trustworthy. Many drugs can now be bought online under generic names far cheaper than the normal full price. I tried some generic Cialis and certainly have no complaints.

In Bangkok Indian "Viagra", little red pills, are more popular!
|
Are you wondering about purchasing them or about importing them to your own country?
|
always be aware that fakes are the norm in thailand....
if i were to buy any drugs i would buy them at boots or some large pharmacy, not in a little local place...go to a drug store in a mall to be safest... not sure about the import business, but doubt you would have any problem with a normal amount.... |
Should have been clearer. I meant if buying Zanax, Ambien or Valium from a proper drug store and bringing them back to the US.
|
US Prescription will not be valid in Thailand and the drugs you've mentioned are quite strictly controlled. If you want them you will have to see a local doctor first and ask for a prescription. Only pharmacy in a hospital will have your drugs - Boots will not have Valium I'm afraid!

I needed to get a prescription for sleeping pills while traveling. I did have to go see a doctor at a hospital for the pills. The whole process including registering at the hospital, seeing a doctor and getting the pills took about 45 minutes and total cost was about $30. This include the sleeping pills, which he gave me 60 pills, which in the states are $3 a pill.

I don't think buying prescription drugs such as those to take home is a good choice.
BUT! I had to buy a prescription inhaler while I was overseas on vacation last year. Took a chance, went into a large Pharmacy with no knowledge of the local language, handed my empty to them. They knew right away what it was and fetched me a new one. No prescription needed. No questions. 15 USD and it's twice as big as the ones I get back in the States. Big gamble, but in this case worked out ok. I told hubby I need to go back there once a year just to stock up. :-d |
Benzos are only available in hospital pharmacies with a prescriiption, but many, many other drugs are available for the asking in the usual pharmacies like Boots. Drugs like Xanax and Valium are very cheap in the US in generic form, so I'm not sure what the advantage, if any, there would be to buying them in Thailand.
