Prepare for rain
 

We're departing for Bangkok and CM this weekend. I seen the weather reports and looks like we'll have to prepare for alot of rain! I'll take an umbrella but do we need rain jackets or will we just sweat??

Don't even think about jackets!

Take an umbrella. You'll use it as much to keep the sun off as the rain off. The rain cools it off a bit so will be welcome.

We're leaving for the same places next Wednesday. I looked at the reports and they say scattered T'storms. I'm guessing that means it won't rain all day? Maybe a bit like Texas weather? It rains and tries to cool things off and then gets hot and steamy again? I'll take an umbrella, but mostly I think I'll just plan on getting a bit wet and then drying off. I'm not that sweet that I'll melt ;-)!

Although, I know you are a very experienced traveler in Asia I don't expect you to be able to be a weather God & predict the future . But, in your best guess should we expect to be soaked the entire time since we plan to be outside most of the time or will it rain a couple time a day and dry out in between?

I can't think of any time I've been in Thailand when it rained all day. Typically, there may be a thunderstorm in the morning or in the later afternoon, but dry the rest of the day.

I will deal with any weather situation that comes my way But, your comments made me feel a lot better. Thanks.

Here is Chiang Mai we have had rain for an hour or so most afternoons this week and the forecast is for more of the same.

It won't spoil your holiday, but carry an umbrella; as others have said you won't need a jacket. Avoid wearing good shoes that you would not want to get wet.

Current temperatures are around 24 to 30.

Most of the time the rain only lasts an hour or two and then the sun comes out again (if it is daytime!) Often the rain falls during the night hours too!

When it rains in Thailand it does not rain all over the entire country at the same time. You can even get a tan or sunburn in Chiang Mai!

When it rains stop in a restaurant, a mall, a bar or an internet shop. The rain will stop. Some streets may flood a little until the drains can handle the deluge. Most of the sidewalks are high enough to keep your feet dry. Doesn't flood everywhere anyway.

No jackets, however, if you intend to take some long boat rides it might be helpful to use a long sleeve shirt as a light jacket to keep the sun off of you or if you get chilly. Small fold up umbrella will cost around 100 baht.

Was there 2 weeks ago.Overcast sky in Bangkok and only the odd thunderstorm which came at night.In Phuket there were some rain squalls during the day but only in the north of the island.We did not take coats or umbrellas with us and did not need them except in Phuket. Don.

just bet on Umbrella only as in jacket you are going to suffocate due to the humidity.

Umbrellas are the best
