power port connections on NW airlines

Has anyone used the power port outlets on NW Airbus 330-200? Do you have to have a special adapter or can you just plug in a laptop or portable DVD player, and use the power port instead of a battery?

Haven't been on one, but all NW's 330s (both -200 and -300 versions) have regular 110V AC plug, so you don't need any adapter to use the plug. Just like what you'll do at home.

I have used the power ports. You do not need an adaptor, just a regular plug. Some people have reported that it a lot of people on the flight are using the power, you can not charge and run your computer at the same time. (The solution is to remove your battery) I have not had this problem. Keep in mind that that power ports are only in WBC and the first 10 (Seat Guru has the exact number) rows of coach. The on demand video is also good, you may not need a DVD player.

Thanks for the responses. I already bought a DVD so will bring it. I wasn't sure what kind of children's movies the on demand video would have. We have seats 19 and 20 which have the power ports. The only problem is our return from Narita-Det is a 747 so no power ports. I guess we'll only be able to use the DVD until the battery runs out. By the way can you charge the battery while watching a movie, if the unit is plugged in?

I think that the ability to charge and watch is dependant on how many other people are using the power. I know a lot of people have been able to charge and run their laptop, so I would guess it is the same for DVD players. Also, good point, there were not very many good kids choices on my flight to and from BKK last month.

We took a 747 to Japan and bought an extra battery for the portable DVD player to give us an extra 4 hrs of play time.
