Port of Laem Chabang to Bangkok
I'm on a cruise docking in the port of Laem Chabang for Bangkok, anyone know how far apart they are? Can I take a taxi there into the city? Need advice on places to see and things to do for 2 days. Is it possible to hire a guide for the sightseeing?

I think there was a thread about this a few months ago and the consensus was the best thing to do was to book a car in advance for a set fee.
Yes, you can hire a guide but I don't think you need one. You might, however, want a driver if heat and humidity bothers you. My suggestion for two days: Day 1 -- Temple of the Emerald Buddha and Wat Po; Jim Thompson House (eat lunch there). Day 2- rent a long tail boat with driver and go for a klong tour which should include a stop at Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). Afternoon go to Vinamanek Mansion and Jim Thompson store. This leaves you a bit of time if you want to shop or just relax at a spa. |
gloria has outlined a very nice tour, but did not include the grand palace which is #1 on most lists....ratt may be a good choice or julie's taxi..

Sorry-- since the Grand Palace and temple of the emerald buddha are in the same complex I just said the one for brevity sake. But, obviously, one should go there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you know of any reliable source for hiring a driver? or can I just get on a taxi at the dock and have him drive me to the various places? Any idea of the taxi rate?

I would hire someone in advance who comes recommended. Lots of people on this forum have used Ratt and Julie's Taxi. You can do a search and come up with information. Where are you staying in Bangkok?

The cruise ship is docking overnight at the port, thanks for the advice. |
i think you will encounter the more difficult type taxi driver at the pier, but i am just guessing...they will want a flat rate which is outrageous probably and the pressure of the minute will allow you to make a mistake...
i would arrange something in advance...i think the port is quite a ways but am not sure... |
