The Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok is on the opposite side of the Chao Phraya from the Oriental Hotel. I have not stayed here, but, I have a friend who did and she loved the hotel and said that every amenity, including the swimming pool, was fabulous.

I was going to stay at the Peninsula when I am in Bangkok next week, but I decided to stay at the Oriental because of its fame.

Im sure the Peninsula, Hans, will exceed your standards.

The pool there is actually separated from the main ground of the hotel by a canal, which seemed to me a public one. Anyway, there's a nice bridge going across that to the pool. The pool itself is narrow but long, and runs along this canal. It terminates at the riverside, with nice views, though.

I have stayed at the Pennisula in Bangkok twice in the past two years. It is a gorgeous hotel, rooms are lovely, staff very helpful, and fabulous burret bfast. The pool is delightful, I never had a problem finding a place to sit. The pool is several long connecting rectangular pools. At one end there is a jacuzzi, that is not very hot. The pool is not separated by a canal from the hotel grounds, it's right there. I would highly recommend this hotel, and will probably stay there when I go back to Bangkok in Jan. or Feb,., you'll love it.

Have a look at the photos we took when we stayed there:http://www.travelforum.org/thailand/messages/14887.html
We had a Deluxe suite for 2 nights. I have to say it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in some very luxurious hotels around the world. And don't worry the pool is great ( copy and paste the link above and then open).
