polio booster for thailand
 
Is it necessary to get the polio booster for bangkok, chiang mai and koh samui? I leave in a week.

UHHH... you guys at Fodors ARE my travel clinic :)

so how important is this polio booster shot? We leave in a week as well. I have a Dr appt on Friday - I suppose I will ask her about this but would love your insite Bob.

There have been several recent outbreaks of polio. India, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have all reported cases. With air travel, I think it's important to have the polio booster (for instance, they know the first cse in Indonesia came from Saudi). The cdc recommends it in general for travel, as do other travel health sites.

i hate shots, but i think i hate the thought of disease more.....what more can i say....we are lucky....so far our health insurance pays for all our shots and travel medecines except for the co-pays

i would not hesitate to take the booster...consequenences of not outweigh the posibitlities
