Point the way (please) to five great lunches and dinners in Bangkok
 

Our plan is to stay in Bangkok (first time) the last week of January. We'll have five nights at the Peninsula. I have dutifully read and reread (and forgotten) many of the restaurant recommendations on this site and chowhound. We're excellent eaters, not on a budget, and want a memorable week of eating and touring in Bangkok.

Here's what I'm currently thinking but would very much appreciate suggestions:

Dinner:
Gaggan
China House at the Oriental for Beijing duck
Nahm
Bo.Lan

Lunch
Krua Apsorn
Blue Elephant
Lana Thai at Face

This will be at the end of an almost four week trip so we may be slow on the sightseeing but I'm hopeful we'll still be good eaters. What do you think? Thanks!

lunch or dinner: biscotti at four seasons
lunch at lord jim at the oriental
dinner at harmonique, closed sundays
dinner at himili cha cha, off new rd.
dinner at L'Opera
dinner at zanotti
drinks at sky bar
lunch at liu restaurant at conrad--dim sum

I think you have a very good list. Bob's recommendations are heavy on Italian. While Biscotti is excellent if you are craving Italian by that point in your trip, L'Opera is merely ok, perhaps a place for lunch rather than dinner.

Better Dim Sum lunch would be at the Penninsula Hotel!

Lunch: Jim Thompson house, cool space, good green papaya salad

Dinner: Loved Thiptara at the Peninsula, ate there twice because kids fell asleep in room, stunning setting, get river view table, we like very spicy food - this didn't disappoint

how could i have forgotten the penn's dim sum...

Tongue Thai and Harmonique were two of our favorite meals in BKK. We also did a great Food tour that provided some memorable tastings/meals. Here's a thread on the food tour

Rang Mahal (Indian) is great for dinner as well - wonderful views too.

Warm greetings Marija, and congratulations again on forthcoming Bangkok holiday. (And, kudos for booking the Peninsula; well done. Will always have the fondest memories of joyous times at that property, particularly various Loy Krathongs, Valentine's Days and a memorable King celebration in Dec. '11 with the loved one.)

Bit rushed on this Singapore morning, but can't resist giving the continued highest praise to the Chon Thai restaurant at The Siam resort. Latest dining experience was last weekend during an all too brief and long overdue holiday stay at that magnificent Mandarin Oriental. (If so inclined, my review of the MO was just listed on my profile page.)

And, would be remiss in not mentioning my all-time favourite Thai cuisine: Book the Cook's Thai offerings, flying SQ J from our fine home of Singapore to beloved Bangkok for meetings and occasional holiday. Fine as ever late last week, for our SQ celebration flight from SIN to BKK.

Much more to recommend, perhaps this weekend if not sooner. Until then, savour your planning and warm New Year wishes to you and all,

I have been advised to search for an excellent forum member who has compiled a list of restaurants in Bangkok. May I ask - is this you, as I cannot get any results in a search "Bob - Bangkok - Restaurant List"
If so, FOUR of us are staying at The Empire Place - Marriott Timeshare.
We would be looking for certainly 4 star, but potentially 5 star places for both lunch and dinner.
We are there for 7 days before we go down to Phuket
