Please suggest some dining options in Phuket Patong Area.
 

We are currently in Phuket (Club Andaman resort at Patong beach), and can't find any restaurants that look appealing. Could you please reccomend a few lunch/dinner spots around Patong area (or within short drive). Looking for seafood/thai/noodles places (not western food).

If you walk back from Club Andaman onto the next road ( Rat-U-Thit Road ) and just go left you will find loads of street food stalls with noodles etc, that used to be where lots of locals ( and I ) used to eat, though recently you see far more tourists venturing there ! These are street food places but cheap ( for Phuket prices anyway )
If you turn right along Rat-U-Thit Road and go along opposite the Royal Paradise area there are lots of seafood places there on the right before you get to the Soi Bangla intersection, the best in my opinion for seafood in the evenings is the 'Red Boat', it's roughly in the middle and has red table clothes, lots of them together but try the Red Boat as the seafood there is great, they must have a particularly good cook, though again expect it to be packed with tourists. As everywhere with seafood many dishes charged by weight so check the weight, service is fast and quite well priced.
The cheaper places now seem to be packed far more than the more classy restaurants. So many of the local places I used to eat have now been turned into Euro-Thai restaurants, once of my old favorites last time i checked had been turned into an Irish Pub!
Some of the best seafood and Thai food you would find around Rawai but that's the other side of the island and a long way to go.

If you can get down to Karon try the Old Siam, part of the Thavorn Palm beach Hotel, it's on the main beach road past the Hilton, long wall, many miss it, the actual address is 128/10 Karon Beach Road. That is hotel style Thai restaurant but nice views over the beach and quiet and relaxing compared to Patong, Wednesday nights is Buffet night ( as Gpanda advised ), it is very Thai but remember a hotel restaurant but it does make a change. You could also try Mom tri's Kitchen or Gung down at Kata but these are more expensive places.

I wish I could suggest more but most of the places I used to eat are now convenience stores/fast food/euro bars.
If you get the chance head up to Surin Beach ( past Kamala ) and you will see a much more laid back relaxed side to Phuket. Go to north end of the beach at Surin lunchtime for laid back seafood.
That area past the swimming pool at Club Andaman used to be nice gardens all the way down to the beach road, but as you know that is now a mall area!

James, thank you again. We may try to go to Surin Beach on our last day. We will take your reccomendation for Red Boat tonight. We went to Baan Rim Pa last night (sp), and that was great.
Club Andaman is full of large tour groups now, but it is still nice. Too bad it has changed for the worse.
We are having a great time - took Hongs By Starlight tour and it was amazing. Also, the snorkling around Phi Phi islnad was great. I wish we pick a different area to stay (I mean not on Patong), but oh well, maybe next time.

Baan Rim Pa to the Red Boat will certainly be different ends of the spectrum to say the least!
It's open air amongst the other food places, certainly will be a contrast for you!

If you go to Surin take a look at the Manathai, lovely place and might interest you for any future visits to Phuket, it's boutique style. If you get to Karon look at the Movenpick, ideas for if you head back.

You are not far from Laguna Beach and there is a fantastic restaurant there called LOTUS. It's at the far end of the beach and is a bricks and mortar place rather than the usual beach shack place. Wonderful food, so good we traveled from the Marriott (near the airport)to Laguna 3 times to eat there last month. Everything we ate there was really wonderful (all except the mantis prawns- not worth the money) and in the evening, it is a wonderful sunset view. Two thumbs way up for Lotus.

I ate at Lotus a few times, good food at very low prices. Also a great location if you love hearing the waves crashing. I stayed in the Laguna resort so Lotus provided the transfers. Surprised you can't find anything appealing in the Patong area though.

Thanks again for all suggestions! Unfortunately, we did not have time for Lotus, so we would keep it in mind for next time.
James, we only ate at Baan Rim Pa, because it was our anniversary. Normally, we are not in that league. :)
Red Boat was great! I wish we found that seafood market earlier. Seems like much better option than seafood restaurants along the Beach Rd. Oh well, next time we know.
Also, James and KimJapan, thanks so much for recommending 'Hongs by starlight' tour. It was simply amazing!
