Please Help - Hotels Krabi
I need to decided on a hotel to say in in Krabi. I have been looking for what seems like an eternity, and whilst I am sure any of the ones I choose will be good, I want it to be perfect (as far as possible :P)
Basically I am stuck between The Pakasai, and the Pavillion Queens Bay. (I can get both for the same price) Or is it worth spending a bit more for the Ao Nang Cliff (about £10 more a night) I really need/want to get this booked. I think I am going to explode, I am getting so stressed and I am starting to loo forward to the whole holiday being over, and I know thats not good. Please someone help....please. Thank you bundles. |
First up, slow down and relax.
Krabi has a lot of places to stay, in th mid range perhaps 35-40 choices. Pakasai and Pavillion both hillside, not that quickly ( but again many newer places in Ao nang area 'are' hillside as simply no land left near the sea ! You need to head away from Ao Nang for nice beaches: Some reviews:- http://www.res24.com/review/posts.ht...=beachsiam.com The Cliff is overall a far more 'Thai' designed place, again you are look hillside, some reviews: http://www.res24.com/review/posts.ht...=beachsiam.com One of the very 'first' resort hotels at Ao nang was the 'original' aptly named " Krabi Resort ", now, although one of the oldest of resorts in Ao Nang and without the modern trendy/stylish design of new places coming up the Krabi resort has one huge advantage going for it: Location ! It was there wehn Ao Nang was real quiet, hence they had prime beach location, which means it is 'right on the beach' at the north end of Ao Nang. Now as I said this is not a plush hyped resort but, depending on what you want ( and we are all different ) I am one of those who thinks that if you are obviously spending a lot and traveling half way round the world to a beach area actualy staying 'on the beach' as opposed to a long walk away is a biggy! The beach at Ao nang as such is no where what it used to be, some reviews: http://www.res24.com/review/posts.ht...=beachsiam.com Now, one that has been stayed at by regulars on this board though is too new for me to know, but it certainly is getting great reviews is the Central Krabi Bay resort, thought prices are much higher than the others. Now if you are really into beaches and don't mind being a boat trip from Ao nang then Sunrise tropical resort is another option, reviews: http://www.res24.com/review/posts.ht...=beachsiam.com You can click the blue resort names for photos and information. Summary: if you don't mind being up a hillside then there are lots of choices. If you want to be in Ao nang but at the weaters edge look at krabi resort, if you want absolute beach and don't mind being a boat ride from Ao Nang then perhaps Sunrise Tropical. if you are happy to spend more for a great place then perhaps Central. If you want to throw in your aspirations and what sort of place you are seeking then many can add to ideas. A lot depends how much time you plan to spend in the resort / hotel, or if you plan on lots of trips and tours, also if you want to have easy access to restaurants and bars or not. The more you can tell the easier. There are also 2 best Westerns, one nearer the water than the other. |
Wow, thanks for all that. Definatley somethings to think about (more things I should say).
Some more info... 1. The central is a bit to far out of our price range - maybe next time 2. Sunset looks lovely but I am worried about the reliability of boats as we are going in the monsoon season. (next week actually - hence my panic)Would they be running everyday? 3. We don;t minbd being about 1 5-10 minute walk from the beach. 4. Somewhere with great views 5. We are there for 5 nights before heading to Bangkok. Oh and thanks for the quick reply, I honestly was not expecting one so soon. Ta. |
Well if you are going so soon be prepared for the chance of rain! I would stick with for first 2 but check which has best facilities spa-wise as that is the best place to be when it rains ( unlike me who heads straight outside as soon as it starts to rain - I love it ! ).
Accommodation of course is important, but I certainly would not stress yourself too much over one or another, even with reviews you can see what some people think is great other's don't! However, yuo can probably throw out normal rates if you are going in a week, I have no idea how these may help but you could try this, they have last minute discounts, and the pakasai was down to about USD 60 a night for 2, these show what rooms are available so you could at least look to see what you could get in your price range, they only charge about 10-12% deposit which is great: http://b2b.ratestogo.com/enter.asp?id=5604 Might be worth a look, it is purely for within 20 days and what rooms hotels and resorts have left available, you might pick up a bargain, worth a browse. It's almost 9 am here in Thailand so time I went to bed ! |
Also note that as is low season yuo could always just stick with your first choice but book just say 2 nights and then how you feel when there, it 'is' the middle of the rainy season so it's going to be quite quiet so you'd have no problems getting somewhere else, so why not just book a couple of nights and see how it goes from there, Pakasai at USD 60 for the standard room seems reasonable for this time but you might once there spot something you prefer.

We stayed at the Pakasai for 3 nights, January 2002. We booked a standard room with an on line agency, but on the request space, asked for very high up room w/sea view. When we checked in, they said they upgraded us. The room was very high up, w/large balcony and a good sea view. The room and bathroom were very clean, both large, and very stylish. Breakfast was included and was very good.
Only about 15% of the rooms have a good view and these are all at the very top. It's a long walk uphill, and I think that many people don't want these rooms because of the trek. We were very pleased. It was very good value. |
