How long?
Flying from?
Total budget?
Interests?
Beach or culture, or both?
Do you want to do internal flights, or travel around by bus and/or train?

That's a true, you should give more information first...

Yes, it's hard to help you choose without more information. How many people will be going?

worldtraveler17. Have a look at the first reply, ie. Total budget.

All of these are very enjoyable. I think Thailand, Vietnam and the Phillipines will be much less expensive.

Hello Sue,
I just suppose, if you are travelling with your family, that there are kids travelling with you? It really depends, what you are interested in. Actually Thailand has a very good mix of exotic culture, good food, friendly people and beautiful beaches. Pricewise it's still one of the more budget-friendly countries in SE Asia. If it is your first trip into this area, Thailand will be a very good choice. The Thais are very experienced with tourists, which is mostly good and helpful for the traveller.
Just to give you an idea, I find the most beautiful beaches in Thailand are on Koh Lipe, even if there are many tourists. Please, have a look at our travel notes about a few days on this beautiful island: http://konniandmatt.blogspot.ca/2014...-koh-lipe.html
Depending on your time frame, you shouldn't miss the beautiful historic temples in Thailand, like in Ayuthaya: http://konniandmatt.blogspot.ca/2010...-may-2010.html
This is very close to Bangkok which is worth to see too, if you want to spend some time in a big city. Please see our travel notes with many pictures about Bangkok: http://konniandmatt.blogspot.ca/2012...2-bangkok.html
I wish you a wonderful trip. Please, do give some more information about your interests and who is travelling, just in case I couldn't help you.
Happy travels, Konni. www.konniandmatt.blogspot.com

In order - Thailand, Japan, Viet Nam, Philippines, Singapore (why???) in a distant last place.... (I know, I am bracing myself for my comment here...;-)) Viet Nam and Japan are so different but we travel regularly to both and the family simply likes Japan better....We live in Thailand so we're a bit partial about that one.... Philippines has such horrible food so being there is always a challenge although there are definitely some nice places...

Japan - bland
Thailand - great cheap food, great snorkelling and kayaking. $7 massages and very good value hotels. My fav.
Sing - business city. Ok for 2 nights only.
Vietnam - havent been but friends didnt like it much. They said locals not that friendly and a bit dirty.
Philli - never been. Famous for great beaches and terrible food. Big cities there are bad for crime too.
