Plaza Athenee Bangkok

Has anyone stayed at this hotel on Wireless Road in Bangkok. Is it near everything we want to see and do in Bangkok. We are two girls in our early 30s traveling. Aside from Chiang Mai where else should we go...we are off the beaten path types of girls.

thanks!

We just stayed there for 4 nights at the beginning of this month. The Athenee is very well situated 5 minutes from the sky train. We had absolutely no complaints about this hotel. Make sure the excellent buffet breakfast is included in your rate.

from this hotel you are within walking distance of some of bkk's best shopping....peninsula plaza mall, next door.....the mini malls at the 4 seasons, the hyatt and others along this busy area.....central chitlom is very close as are the gaysorn plaza, the former world trade center and the thai craft center.....a short distance away are the complexes at siam square, mbk, siam discovery center....the jim thompson house is not far either nor is the jim thompson main store...

major sites like the grand palaces and some of the major wats are a short taxi ride away...

this hotel is well situated

Forgive me for nitpicking, Bob but the shopping venues in your excellent list are not really within walking distance of the Athenee. However, they are all easily accessed by skytrain. Restaurants off Sukhumvit such as Bed Supperclub and Face are also easy to get to by sky train. I would highly recommend purchasing a day pass for the skytrain, by the way.

craig---i think we have walked them all, but not siam of course...

Bob...the Plaza A is near Chateau de Bangkok where I once stayed and that's 300 meters into Ruam Rudee which is 300 meters from the Ploenchit skytrain station. The Plaza A is a little bit closer to Ploenchit than the Chateau de Bangkok though. That's not"normal" walking distance, but is skytrain distance to the places you mentioned.I walk A LOT in Bangkok...as in from Jim Thompson on Suriwongse to the Oriental Hotel and in late March in the blazing heat.... but that would be a bit of a stretch I think for most people especially if they are not used to the heat. So, if they stay at the Plaza A, then they should skytrain it to Chitlom station and THEN hit the shopping areas you've mentioned. Happy Travels!
