Cleartrip for train tickets in India
On a previous post, I saw the recommendation to use Cleartrip to book train tickets in India. On their site, it says I need to set up an IRCTC account, which requires sending a scanned copy of my passport. I am not familiar with Cleartrip at all and just want to make sure this is kosher. If so, do I need to set up an account for each ticket holder i.e. one for me and one for my husband? Moreover, has anyone had problems with this company? Thank you!

I used Cleartrip successfully, but it was in 2010. No scanned passport required.
According to seat61.com you can now use US credit cards on the IRCTC site, so you would not have to use Cleartrip if you didn't want to. However, seat61 doesn't mention needing a scanned passport for the IRCTC registration.

You might check indiamike as well.

They are reliable. You can go ahead. I also used their services.
But most of the Indian trains always run late. So, book only in Deluxe trains like Rajdhani Express or Shatabdi Express. I had horrible experience other trains.
