Plan for our Honeymoon - Suggestions are welcome
 

Hello Guys,

We are planning to go for our honeymoon in Feb'13 to Thailand. Here is the itinerary: -

3 nights Koh Samui
3 nights Phuket
1 night Bangkok.

I know its a short honeymoon but we don't have a choice. Please let us know what can we do, should do and must avoid to make this trip memorable. Bangkok is predominantly for shopping. We do not intend to shop at USM and HKT. We are vegetarians and we love beaches.

shopping in bkk must include jim thompson. i suggest his outlet on soi 93, sukhumvit--take a taxi.

paragon mall might be another stop, esp the 3rd floor.

may i suggest that rather than phuket that you consider flying to phuket and then drive 1 hour north to the jw marriott at khao lak.. i am there now and it is fab.

before others do, may i also suggest you visit only one beach location--make that K/L and add one more day to bkk.

stay at the peninsula hotel in bkk. or the hyatt, or 4 seasons or The Siam..

Yes, I agree with Bob, choose one beach location. You will have more time to enjoy the beach. If you go to two different beaches, you'll eat up more time getting from place to place and won't have as much time to relax and enjoy. I'd choose a beach on the Andaman Sea - Phuket, PhiPhi, Krabi, Koh Lak, etc. Making your itinerary two stops instead of three is one of the best things you can do to improve your plan.

I also agree that you will want two nights in Bangkok. Tell us what you want to shop for so we can help.

I would also suggest picking one beach location, but mostly because Koh Samui will be on the rainy side in February. See weatherbase.com and other websites and guidebooks. It’s a long way to go to have overcast or rainy weather. I would choose the west coast. Personally, I would avoid Phuket and would go to Khao Lak or Krabi. I think Khao Lak has pretter, beaches, but Krabi has the karst mountains-in-the-sea terrain you see in the photos. So it’s a toss up. You could spend time in both. But Phuket Island itself I don’t like as much as other areas. It’s quite built up.

You won’t have any trouble being a vegetarian in Thailand.

One night in Bangkok and only for shopping will be very rushed. What are you shopping for? If you really want to shop, you could do some in Phuket town (spend 1 night there; there are 2 Jim Thompson factory outlet there as well as several retail outlets, see http://www.jimthompson.com/sales_outlet.asp) and then spend the rest of the time in a nicer beach area. If you aren’t going to do any sightseeing in Bangkok, I don’t see the point of going there.

If you love the beach, then your plan is just perfect. And while you are in BKK, might as well visit the Grand Palace and do a little bit of shopping. Enjoy your honeymoon.

Do note that the middle of February is Chinese New Year and is celebrated throughout the kingdom as well. Notably you will experience a lot of shop, restaurants and business closures but the malls and their shops and restaurants will remain open.

If your budget permit then I love the Amanpuri in Phuket. Semi private beach with excellent service.

We stayed at Twin Palms Phuket in May for five nights and are planning another holiday as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We are still talking about the breakfasts -a wonderful combination of Thai and American breakfast. The spa was very affordable and the spa staff's service was excellent and more thorough than anything we received either stateside or on a cruise. Desk and Concierge staff were always helpful, the fruit delivered to the room was amazing every afternoon. We are extensive travelers and the Twin Palms Phuket is in our top three hotels worldwide. The pool is lovely and expansive. We had a dipping pool on our rooftop which didn't get much use, and overall I would give the Twin Palms Phuket 6 stars on a 1-5 scale. Great value. Lovely beach (3 minute walk) and the worlds best spring rolls at Plaa just a short walk away. We will go back in three months and share time between Twin Palms and the Naka Island where we will stay on points. When we went to the South Pacific, we divided our time between two hotels for two totally different feels. Although most would advise against it for convenience, I love the variety for a totally different experience. Best luck planning, and enjoy your honeymoon and all of your travels.

I think you can stay just one beach (do 5 days), Probably stay at Phuket (Andaman coast is a perfect time), you can stay at PK (Kata or Karon beach both are nice if you need quiet place stay at Kamala beach not far from Patong)
if you would like to visit other island near Phuket you can hire boat/speedboat to visit Koh Racha ,Koh Phi Phi, Koh Kai, Coral island for good snorkel.
Do Bangkok 2 nights: Bangkok have many places to visit and lots of shopping places like Platinum fashion mall, Jatujak Market (weekend only), MBK , Terminal21 and etc. so you will enjoy it.
